Music plays an important socio-cultural role in constructing and/or reflecting geo-cultural and universal emotional states by giving voice to personal emotional sensibilities, such as self-searching, romantic longing, and desire, alongside collective spatial sentiments, patriotism, etc. Moreover, popular song lyrics reveal the socio-cultural values, norms, tastes, and emotional conventions of both their creators and their audience. Thus, this article focuses on decoding geo-cultural vs. universal emotional sensibilities via narrative analysis of the first place winners of the annual Israeli Hit Parades between 1963 and 2018, broadcast on the two major Israeli radio stations, Kol Yisrael and Galgalatz, every year on the eve of the Jewish New Year. This long-standing tradition offers a unique opportunity to examine ongoing changes in socio-emotional coping with fear and death, wars and terror while providing a contemporary conceptual and practical inquiry into the normalization of emotions within a culture and politics of fear.

With the rise and spread of the Web 2.0 culture the nature of "old"/"traditional" social interaction, including shame and shaming, is changing as more and more attention is given to online vs. offline social interactions. Amongst those on-going changes lies the construction of Shaming 2.0, i.e., a public attempt to impose shame on "the Other" by using Web 2.0 technological capabilities. Thus, Shaming 2.0 can be defined as a pragmatic social negotiation regarding the boundaries of what is allowed and forbidden, what is acceptable and unacceptable while performing on-line and off-line social interactions. The illustration of Shaming 2.0 was conducted by utilizing Israeli rabbinical court decisions in the era of Web 2.0 cultural features. Via the implementation of critical discourse analysis, the rise of the 'Virtual Mirror' is portrayed side by side with "new" social interactions behind the scenes of Shame 2.0.

This study develops and illustrates the notion of dissonant political discourse. The discourse of dissonance is to be found wherever there is public debate on controversial topics or on topics requiring a decision, notably in the political arena. Discourse of this kind is characterized by arguments demonstrating both how hard and how necessary it is to face up to any decision that will put the decision maker in an inconsistent position. Findings confirm that voices heard in the arena of political discourse make use of dissonant argument when experiencing difficulties in justifying decisions. Ironically, it is precisely the evidence of difficulties encountered by the speakers that shows how continuation of the joint debate is ensured

This article juxtaposes `temporary' versus `permanent' based on a study of the Israeli Prime Minister's `permanent incapacity' (the result of illness) and of the President's `temporary incapacity' (the result of a police investigation). Analysis indicates that: a) temporal maps are mainly framed by focusing on `temporary' states; b) the temporal structure of `temporary' is associated simultaneously with a sense of stability and with a search for change and transition; c) the temporal structure of `permanent' is linked both to uncertainty and confusion and to the maintenance of continuity. It seems that the inherent tension between `temporary' and `permanent' is challenged by the notion of risk and the rise of `second modernity'.

Im Mittelpunkt des Beitrags steht die These, dass der Öffentliche Rundfunk aufgrund seiner Doppelrolle in die Krise geraten ist: einerseits vertritt er als öffentliche Institution die Interessen des Staates, andererseits kontrolliert er den Staat im Interesse der Zivilgesellschaft. Dieses grundlegende Dilemma wird theoretisch erörtert und am Beispiel eines Fernsehbeitrags der Israeli Broadcasting Authority über den Libanonkrieg 1982 illustriert. (DÜI-Hns)
