Analyzes the circumstances under which physicians (MDs) have sought court orders to force pregnant women to comply with unwanted obstetrical interventions. It is argued that pregnant women have moral obligations to care for their fetuses, though it is sometimes difficult to comply with treatment recommendations due to intervening variables. Utilization of the court system to coerce unwanted treatment raises serious ethical & legal issues. 29 References. Adapted from the source document.
