This work investigates the relationships among Psychology, defined as an institution of knowledge & practices, Politics, conceived as the arena where symbolic & realistic fights occur in order to achieve power & knowledge, & Human Rights, delimited as the socially formed understanding about "human nature." A set of results from several studies carried out by our research group is analyzed. Specifically discussed are the relationships between psychology lecturers' theories & practices concerning homosexuality & discrimination against it. The results show the existence of a social norm that predisposes psychology lecturers against explicit prejudicial attitudes, but that psychological theory & practice reinforce discriminatory situations.
