In Caribbean territories, women's economic participation rates appear favorable compared to most developing countries, but are less than half that of men; unemployment rates, twice as high as men's, are rising. Conventional indicators do not define and measure women's work as the totality of the activities they undertake to maintain their households. Consequently, they reflect neither the impact of factors influencing women's involvement in income earning nor the need for direct and indirect support to increase their options. The present economic crisis has highlighted this need, as women have intensified their struggle to find adequate livelihoods to support themselves and their children
