The communitarian universe is animated by a totalitarian logic that forces people to repress the most individual dimension of themselves: their individualism. In the microcosm of the village, this violence is exhibited in the most banal social relations, between man and women or between elders and juniors. In the urban case (Abidjan) - and in a context of economic crisis - such violence tends to become reciprocal and is exteriorized when individuals react by violence to the supposed violence of their community. To consider the affinities between (traditional) communities and communitarianism (modern), we see that the one feeds of the other, nourishing its own forms of violence. (Polit afr/DÜI)
