Estimating the impact of the Balassa-Samuelson effect in central and eastern European countries: A revised analysis of panel data cointegration tests
In: Panoeconomicus: naučno-stručni časopis Saveza Ekonomista Vojvodine ; scientific-professional journal of Economists' Association of Vojvodina, Band 59, Heft 4, S. 475-499
ISSN: 2217-2386
This paper aims to reassess the contribution of the Balassa-Samuelson effect
to the inflation and real exchange rate appreciation using panel data for
nine CEECs covering the period ranging from the mid-1990s to the third
quarter of 2010. The main idea of this analysis is to answer the question of
whether the Global Economic Crisis had a significant impact on the efforts of
CEECs to stay on the path of real convergence. The Balassa-Samuelson effect
explains less than 1.5 percentage points on average of inflation differential
relative to the euro area and around 1 percentage point of the total domestic
inflation. The results are robust across the model specification and
estimation method. Most of the results point out that the Balassa-Samuelson
effect has not changed considerably during the crisis even though it is lower
compared to that in the earlier stage of transition (for the period up to
2004).

Perspective Taking: Knowledge of Level 1 and Level 2 Rules by Congenitally Blind, Low Vision, and Sighted Children
In: Journal of visual impairment & blindness: JVIB, Band 89, Heft 6, S. 514-523
ISSN: 1559-1476
This article reports on a study of the knowledge of the Level 1 and Level 2 rules of perspective taking by three groups of 8-year-old children with three visual conditions. Although all groups of children had knowledge of the Level 1 rules, their knowledge of the Level 2 rules was affected by their vision. Thus, the sighted children performed better than the children with low vision, and the children with low vision performed better than those who were congenitally blind.
Vibrotactile Perception: Perspective Taking by Children Who Are Visually Impaired
In: Journal of visual impairment & blindness: JVIB, Band 88, Heft 6, S. 550-563
ISSN: 1559-1476
The study reported in this article compared the performance on perspective-taking tasks of congenitally blind children performing tasks through haptic exploration, congenitally blind children using a vibrotactile prosthetic device, and children with low vision using limited visual abilities. The vibrotactile prosthetic device improved the blind children's performance on the perspective-taking tasks. When the visually impaired children were asked to perform the tasks through haptic exploration or the use of limited vision, the perspective-taking tasks did not adequately measure their perspective-taking abilities.

The regional structure of Serbia
In: Journal of Urban and Regional Analysis, Band 1, Heft 1, S. 55-66
This paper approaches some of the characteristics of the regional development
of Serbia, from the perspective of two models of territorial organization: one is
governmental (administrative and statistical), and the other is functional. The imbalances in
the levels of development of various territorial units of Serbia (regional disproportions) are
the consequence of many structural disharmonies, material limitations, and problems with
population structure, during many years, all worsened by political and economic events at
the end of the twentieth century. Also, in this paper we point out the main characteristics of
undeveloped regions, the criteria with which we can define them, and a typology of the
municipalities inside each such region.
