AbstractArid regions in Northwestern China, such as Ganzhou District, are crucial for agriculture but face challenges due to water scarcity. This study employs a coupling coordination model to analyse the environmental impact of agricultural water use in Ganzhou District and dissect the tension between agricultural development and ecological concerns. Despite an overall positive trend, the study reveals relatively poor coordination between water use and environmental protection, along with uneven spatial distribution. Examining the tension between agricultural expansion and its environmental repercussions, this study offers a reference for efforts to promote sustainable practices in agriculture and environmental management in oases.
