The Contexts of Class
In: Politics, Band 15, Heft 2, S. 71-77
ISSN: 1467-9256
Class now occupies a marginal position in much of contemporary social and political theory and (it seems) in politics in general. This is discernible most clearly in the proliferation of emancipatory projects constituted around non class axes where class appears to be of little (if any) relevance. This article suggests that class is still important for our understanding of political struggles (including ostensibly non-class struggles) but only if we are able to think of class in a much more fluid and open-ended way.

Building Capacity in Kenya's ICT Market Using Cross-Border Scrum Teams
Part 8: Agile Development ; International audience ; This practitioner report outlines the nature of constraints to the development of ICT markets in Kenya, and identifies the cause of key market failures to grow domestic capacity. Results of an initiative to improve Kenyan ICT capacity though mentoring, international collaboration and the use of Agile project management methods are discussed. Based on findings from CodePamoja, a two-year collaboration between Dutch and Kenyan IT companies and the German government, the report explains how the use of cross-border Agile teams may align well to the objectives of those working in ICT4D.

Globalization and the Political Economy of Risk
In: Review of international political economy: RIPE, Band 7, Heft 4, S. 574-594
ISSN: 0969-2290
This article examines notions of globalization through the conceptual lens of risk. Adapting the framework employed by Frank H. Knight, the article identifies three variables that help to explain how the role of risk & risk management is understood across a variety of (often antagonistic) literatures on globalization: boundaries, knowledge, & organization. The article examines how three broadly distinct approaches to globalization -- hyperglobal, state-focused, & the so-called Third Way -- can be examined through competing conceptions of risk. In so doing, the article seeks to understand how prevailing ideas about globalization advance specific accounts of the risk-induced choices of actors -- whether states, firms, or individuals -- within the political economies of modern societies. 1 Figure, 43 References.
