Knowledge management is currently looking like a symptom of the crises in collective learning for several decades now, knowledge management in firms has been the domain of specific contributors -- specialists from design offices, research laboratories, the administrative field, etc -- but the emergence of innovation-intensive capitalism has plunged this particular group of protagonists into crisis. The question the situation raises is no longer that of knowledge "transfer," but that of management of the reciprocal learning vital to the collective production of knowledge. This management presupposes new types of organization described as "design-oriented," as these encourage cycles of collective learning, they make possible the simultaneous regeneration of objects, skills, & professions. 1 Figure, 26 References. Technological platforms have been given two missions by public policies : contributing to knowledge production and realize technological transfer to the industry. The historical and empirical analysis of six different platforms reveals heterogeneous operations and performances, including a rapid obsolescence of equipments for some of them. How to explain this empirical heterogeneity ? Why performances and operations are far behind initial expectations ? To answer these questions, we have assumed that research and innovation dynamics are due, not so much to the economic properties of research, to the goods exchanged on platforms or to public incentives, rather than to largely unknown organizational and governance mechanisms. Based on the characterization of three models of organization and governance of platforms, we stress two key factors for success : the development of engineering capabilities within platforms enabling to absorb rapidly changing technologies ; the building of new multi-level governance rules to address the co-evolution of platform activities and research programs. ; La gestion collective des plates-formes technologiques est l'un des enjeux des politiques publiques dans les sciences de la vie en France, qui leur assigne la double mission de contribuer à produire des connaissances nouvelles et de réaliser des transferts technologiques vers l'industrie. L'analyse historique et empirique de six plates-formes révèle des fonctionnements et des performances hétérogènes, allant jusqu'à l'obsolescence rapide des équipements. Comment expliquer cette hétérogénéité empirique ? Pourquoi le fonctionnement et les performances des plates-formes sont-ils éloignés des attentes initiales ? Pour répondre à ces questions, on part de l'hypothèse que les dynamiques de recherche et d'innovation ne sont pas tant attribuables aux propriétés économiques de la recherche, aux biens échangés sur les plates-formes ou aux incitations publiques, qu'à des mécanismes organisationnels et de gouvernance locaux, généralement méconnus. A partir de la caractérisation de trois modèles d'organisation et de gouvernance des plates-formes, on met en évidence deux facteurs clés de succès : le développement de capacités d'ingénierie au sein des plates-formes permettant d'absorber les progrès rapides de la technologie ; la construction de règles de gouvernance multi-niveaux favorisant la co-évolution des activités des plates-formes et des programmes de la recherche.
