Developments in global military affairs for each major international region are examined. Assessment of the US's Quadrennial Defense Review Report (2006) indicated that the US government envisions a lengthy conflict against international terrorism & stresses counter-insurgency capabilities. Even though some North Atlantic Treaty Organizations have restricted troop deployments in certain Iraqi provinces, it is stated that many members strongly support security-enhancement programs throughout Afghanistan. The prospects of international military action against Iran & Iran's potential responses to the international community's abandonment of diplomacy are then considered. Also, the international communitys inability to evaluate the Peoples Republic of Chinas armed forces, struggle against piracy in Southeast Asia, & efforts to strengthen political stability & regional security in Africa are briefly discussed.
