Argues that achieving a progressive US foreign policy will require a substantive transformational politics beyond what might be expected from the presidency of Barack Obama who has already indicated support for certain tenets of US imperial policy. Disturbing aspects of Obama's foreign policy positions related to Afghanistan/Pakistan, Iran, Israel-Palestine, & renunciation of the idea of the US as an uncontestable imperial force are pointed out. The potential for the expectations provoked by Obama to generate new movements for social change is discussed. Adapted from the source document

The antiwar movement should demand the immediate, unconditional end to the US occupation of Iraq & the abandonment of all military bases in the country. Peace activists should spread the word at home that the occupation derives from an imperialist agenda that bolsters repressive political systems such as Egypt's & Saudi Arabia's. K. Coddon

A chapter from the forthcoming book, Ten Excellent Reasons for National Health Insurance, edited by Mary O'Brien & Martha Livingston, points out false claims made by opponents of single-payer national Health insurance in the US where a majority of the public & an increasing number of physicians support universal health care. It is emphasized that halfway solutions won't work; the private insurance industry must be eliminated in order to provide a humane & just health care system.
