The war between Russia and Georgia received rejection in the European Union. Since then, relations between Russia and Brussels have chilled. The present article follows the different stations in this development. It is stated that the EU has a responsibility in the isolation of Russia and that the post-soviet states are used as instruments against Russia. Three forms of consequences of the war are explained: the normative-ideological; the international-diplomatic; and the political-strategic. Furthermore are discussed: Russian imperialism and the history of the Russian-Georgian conflict. The central focus remains the political-strategic consequences: increasing EU activities in post-soviet region; solution of the security problems regarding the supply of energy; and escalation of the situation by political promises made by the West to Saakascchwili.
