After examining the nature of political scientists in South Korea in terms of their specialization and origin of academic degrees, the authors attempt to trace overall research trends by analysing political science literature by sub-field. They delineate patterns of theory development in South Korea by analysing contending paradigms and they discuss the institutional setting of political science in the country and elucidate its impacts on disciplinary development.
