A study of Egyptian professionals (N=110), during 1951, reveals the ambivalent character of their nationalistic att's: they suggested seeking aid toward their nationalistic goals from the very countries which they identified as their 'enemies', & their proposals for gov'al action had little correspondence with the programs they would undertake as head of state. The hypo explored is that the indecisive character of these nationalistic att's derives from the ambivalent situation in which the professionals found themselves. On the one hand, they were strongly drawn to the West, & admired it in many respects. On the other hand, they felt themselves rejected & snubbed by the West, & they had uneasy feelings that in some respects they were, in fact, inferior to Westerners. A note by Daniel Lerner is included. AA-IPSA.
