This report presents the summary findings of a survey which was carried out in 1992 by the Directorate of Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development with the participation of the people in three communal areas (Namaland, Bondelswarts, Warmbad). The summary is divided into three main sections: (1) the economy of the communal areas; (2) the social and economic conditions under which rural households live; and (3) ideas and activities which may help to promote rural development.
