Purpose. Identifying the research gap in the area of tourism business models (MB) and formulating a research programme to analyse structural changes within the tourism market.
Method. Review and synthesis of publications from the EBSCO, Emerald Insight, ProQuest, Science Direct and Web of Science databases, devoted to tourism MB in the years 2000-2018. Identification of common topics and identification of research gaps.
Findings. The research topics most frequently undertaken were: 1) MB configurations in the areas of tourism and hotel industry, transport, brokerage services and e-commerce; 2) analysis of value types; 3) sustainability of the business model; 4) susceptibility to the impact of technology; (5) role of formal and legal environment.
Research and conclusion limitations. The scope of analysis was limited to the mentioned databases and a review of scientific articles in English. Industry reports were omitted as not meeting the methodological requirements of scientific works, despite the fact that they illustrate the phenomenon of the emergence of new entities in tourism and the disappearance of the borders of markets, industries and entities.
Practical implications. Operationalisation of the MB concept and the answer to the question, what is the real source of the crisis of the industries and entities of the tourist market, will lead to avoiding improper solutions. Despite statutory changes aimed at ensuring equal legal conditions for the functioning of tourism economy entities, differences resulting from different MB effectiveness and failure to recognise structural changes limiting the chances for development and flexible response to environmental conditions persist.
Originality. In the article, it is indicated how scientists operationalise the MB concept and perceive the conditions for its modification. Together with the established directions of further research, this will allow to create a common conceptual basis and systematise knowledge resources useful in research on MB tourism market.

The presentation of challenges with which scientific journals and – more broadly – scientific communication, will have to face in the substantive, technological and financial sphere in the conditions of constant evolution of the digital world, dynamic development of new information systems in science (e-library, library 2.0) and new phenomena conditioning the behaviour of Internet users. Method. The views presented in the article are the result of a review of literature regarding scientific journals and empirical research, which was conducted from April to August 2018 among 132 authors representing the world of science and economic practices. Findings. The open access (OA) movement has caused significant changes in the behaviour of people of science in publishing and depositing research results. The prospect of taking over all the functions of scientific journals by scientific repositories still seems to be distant due to the lack of alternative methods for assessing the quality of scientific publications. There are doubts about the division into scientific, institutional repositories and the repositories belonging to scientific journals, which results from unclear business models of individual solutions. The phenomenon of self-publishing is stimulated by the dynamic development of research carried out by business units, skilfully analysing the resources of large data sets and successfully popularising research results in social repositories. This is new quality in the area of information exchange, which requires rapid adaptation on scientific grounds. An insufficiently implemented postulate to popularise scientific knowledge and its transfer to business practice remains an equally important challenge. Research and conclusions limitations. The results of the survey based on the respondents' subjective assessment should be treated with caution and do not allow to draw general conclusions. The research revealed significant discrepancies in respondents' opinions regarding the future of scientific journals and their prospects for functioning in new information systems. The highest doubts concern the quality assessment system of scientific publications and the business model of scientific repositories: the significant number of stakeholders of the scientific communication system, dispersed in various scientific, political and economic systems, further limits the possibility of formulating unambiguous decisions in this respect. Originality. The presented article formulates challenges for scientific journals whose functions are being increasingly taken over by scientific and social repositories. In contrast to the previously published works, this suggests solutions in the field of artificial intelligence, which will enable complete change in the way of publishing and validation of knowledge as well as quality control of scientific research. Summary: This paper seeks to focus on
the idea of a user-centric context-aware
digital system and its rationale in a process
of tourism value creation. The purpose of
the study is to offer an understanding of
the context-aware applications in order to
analyze their usefulness in tourism marketing.
This is achieved through a literature
review of existing research and the
demonstration of several applications in
travel and hospitality which might enrich
the set of marketing tools adopted by
tourism regions and enterprises.

Purpose. Assessment of the degree of preparation of Polish entrepreneurs in the hotel sector to implement the principles of circular economy and recognition of their opinions in the field of formal and economic conditions for the creation of a circular economy in Poland. Method. The views presented in this article are the result of a review of literature on circular economy and empirical studies carried out using the monographic method based on a survey and structured IDI (individual in-depth interview) among a group of 64 hotel enterprises. Findings. The study assessed 5 basic areas characteristic for circular economy. In the course of the interviews, it was established that the areas most poorly prepared to implement the principles of circular economy in the group of hotel SMEs are the design, consumption and use (in particular re-use and repairs). The assessment of preparation in the areas of raw material collection and distribution was slightly better. The knowledge of circular economy issues among investors and designers, attitudes and consumer awareness, state of legal regulations and availability of support from public authorities (in the area of education and financing solutions in the field of circular economy) were rated as low. Research and conclusions limitations. The results of research carried out using the monographic method, based on subjective assessments of respondents, should be treated with caution and do not allow to draw general conclusions. They are, however, an indication for future activities concerning the education of entrepreneurs and consumers in the field of circular economy assumptions and setting research and development priorities aimed at strengthening the closed circuit in the economy. Practical implications. The conclusions and postulates formulated by the respondents point to the insufficient preparation of the economy for the implementation of the circular economy principles and the need to take action in the area of education, legal regulations and fiscal policy. In the opinion of hotel entrepreneurs, without changes at the general economic and formal- legal levels, the actual implementation of circular economy principles in the hotel industry will not be possible due to the complex system of investor and operator relations with suppliers and subcontractors. At the most, individual actions may be limited to assumptions of social responsibility and sustainable development formulated for years, which cannot be equated with a closed circuit. Originality. This is the first survey of tourist entrepreneurs' opinions on the possibilities of implementing a circular economy and their readiness to meet the requirements of the circular economy.
