AbstractThis article explores the complexity of Indigenous citizenship in contemporary Bolivia through the analysis of a land dispute involving the Indigenous people of Coroma and a neighbouring Indigenous group. The Coromeños understand their rights as stemming from the colonial, republican and plurinational periods: their citizenship is thus described as 'time-layered'. This study highlights the importance of the image of the state for practices of Indigenous citizenship in Bolivia, in contrast with an understanding based solely on rights of self-government. Furthermore, by comprehending these layers as social memories, the article underlines the importance of conceiving of citizenship as rooted in historical experiences and reproduced by practices of collective memory.

Neste artigo, que introduz o dossiê "Ecologia Política: contribuições da América Latina", expomos de maneira ampla as definições desta agenda de pesquisa. Resgatamos a trajetória da ecologia política no mundo e seu desenvolvimento na América Latina, destacando suas particularidades na região, como a incorporação da perspectiva decolonial e um maior engajamento ativista. Identificamos também processos comuns contemporâneos – o avanço do extrativismo, a imposição de projetos desenvolvimentistas à revelia das populações locais, e a resistência de movimentos indígenas, rurais e urbanos à contínua degradação da natureza – que marcam a experiência dos países do nosso continente. Por fim, apresentamos as contribuições que compõem este dossiê, ressaltando seu potencial para a construção de uma ecologia política global diversa e horizontal.

Abstract This article offers a review of the recent trajectories of political ecologies as communities of practice and movements for environmental justice, as well as a paradigm of scientific analysis. In this introduction to the 2021 special issue "Decolonial Insurgencies and Emancipatory Horizons: contributions from Political Ecology" of the Ambiente & Sociedade journal, we present a reflection on the contemporary socio-environmental reality, characterized by crises, environmental destruction, and climate emergency, focusing on the role of political ecology as a privileged space to critically discuss the socio-environmental relations that constitute new forms of violent appropriation of nature. Facing the tension of the current context marked by the rise of phenomena such as authoritarianism, climate change denial, and inequality, we highlight the construction of counter-narratives and alternatives that mobilize other horizons of emancipation and living projects through insurgencies and movements that emerge from the protagonism of marginalized populations and struggles for environmental justice.
