This article explains the characteristics of Chinese aesthetics through the basic concepts of original Confucianism and original Daoism. These theories all regard aesthetic activities as a whole integrated with life cultivation. But the Confucian view believes that from the individual to the country, harmony between all people and the imperial power can be achieved through musical education. The Daoist view believes that abandoning secular utilitarian thinking can remove all obstacles to the development of human nature and connect human nature with nature to achieve spiritual freedom. This attitude has become the process of the artist's pursuit of the highest artistic achievement. For further explanation, this article introduces the theories of figure painters Gu Kaizhi and Xie He, and the theories of landscape painters Guo Xi and Jing Hao. The change from figure painting to landscape painting is not only due to the influence of political reality, but also to the development of the theory of artistic creation based on the ideal realm advocated by Confucianism and Daoism. ; Ovaj članak objašnjava karakteristike kineske estetike kroz osnovne koncepte izvornog konfucijanizma i izvornog daoizma. This article explores the concept of national security in China's legal system and the potential impact for the future of international economic law. By mapping the legal evolution of the concept, this article argues that its expansion reflects China's changing role in global politics and the global economy. When 'national security with Chinese characteristics' is unpacked, we can find multidimensional concerns about a stable and prosperous China. While China displays no intention to challenge the current international economic legal order, this article argues that China has created the foundation to develop a mechanism to project its concept of national security through the Belt and Road Initiative. In this alternative order parallel to the current one established with the US dominance, economic development is considered as an integral part of peace and security.

WTO Members have adopted various trade-related measures under their domestic laws in response to the outbreak of Covid-19. The article discusses ways to exempt or justify quantitative export restrictions or bans which are in principle prohibited by Article XI:1 GATT.To this end, it sheds a light on the different scopes and requirements of Article XI:2 (a), Article XX (b) and ( j) GATT, as well as of Article XXI (b) (iii) GATT. The article finds that the GATT provides a solid legal framework for both the exemption and justification for Covid-19 related trade measures; additionally, it raises the question of whether Article XXI (b) (iii) GATT likewise provides an appropriate legal basis to justify Covid-19 related trade restrictions.

AbstractThis article examines China's compliance with World Trade Organization (WTO) law in the field of publications control from an empirical and theoretical perspective. The study of publications control — a policy field of critical concern to China's Communist government — highlights the competing interests and ideas over 'liberalisation' and 'state control' within the Chinese leadership and within WTO circles. The article, first, describes these competing and historically shifting interests and ideas in the case of a recent landmark WTO dispute on publications control and, second, uses two apparently distinct IR theoretical approaches to explain China's behaviour during the dispute. The article argues that neither an interest-oriented approach nor an idea-centred approach by themselves can explain Chinese political decision-making. The article proposes a combination of two particular views that help to explain the dispute examined but also China's interactions with the WTO more generally.

AbstractThe General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and its successor, the Word Trade Organization (WTO), have been the main forum of international trade since the end of the Second World War. The regime is unquestionably based on free-market rules and principles. Yet in the last two decades, formerly planned economies — including Eastern European countries, former Soviet countries and China — have attempted to join the GATT/WTO. To encourage their transition under the influence of free-market principles, and to be a truly global trade organization, the GATT/WTO has accepted applicants with a reforming planned economy. This article studies the evolution of the GATT/WTO's approaches to integrate non-market economies and shows that the approach to integrate non-market economies during the WTO era is significantly different than during the GATT. While special mechanisms were provided in GATT accession protocols to bridge different market structures, WTO accessions require non-market economies to convert their own market structures. This article holds that this intolerance of different market structures in the WTO reflects the collapse of embedded liberalism and the rise of coercive trade diplomacy. Multilateral trade diplomacy has therefore become a means of imposing a domestic restructuring of economic structures rather than providing a negotiation forum for trade liberalization.

In recent years, international organisations have warned of the lethal trade in fake drugs particularly in Africa. This article assesses how and why fake pharmaceuticals have become a problem in Nigeria and how successful the state has been at regulating it, based on archival, official and interview data. While we show that the early roots of this trade can be found in colonial times, its expansion and growing policy concern were driven by crises in the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry and the healthcare system in the 1980s. In contrast to dominant explanations, we argue that the rise of fake drugs in Nigeria was closely linked to these national crises and related global trends towards market liberalisation and the commodification of health. In this unfavourable context, policies to regulate fake drugs remained limited as they only addressed the symptoms of a more fundamental political and economic problem: the shift from public health towards private wealth and profit-making.

Purpose
From the academic perspective, there are challenges to develop an appropriate evaluation model that is linked to both theoretical and professional viewpoints for online knowledge community evaluation (KCE). These challenges are mainly the evaluation principles, the method used to derive the evaluation items, and the techniques used to determine the importance of evaluation items to formulate the evaluation model. The purpose of this paper is to propose and develop an online KCE model by considering the Delphi method, analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique, and balanced scorecard (BSC) approach that contains facets of member, strategy, learning and growth, and internal process.


Design/methodology/approach
The qualitative study was used to develop the KCE model. The BSC approach was used to construct the facets of evaluation model. The Delphi method and AHP technique were utilized to derive structural measure items and to determine item weight in the development process, respectively. An illustrated practical case was used to demonstrate the proposed KCE model.


Findings
The member facet is perceived the most important facet while the internal process the least, implying that the invited participants perceive that community members, as represented by member satisfaction and loyalty, are the most important factors. In the knowledge management process sub-facet, knowledge creation obtains the highest weight compared with knowledge acquisition, dissemination, and utilization. Data analysis results based on 822 survey samples for the demonstrated Yahoo!Kimo Knowledge+ case are obtained. Findings and implications are also addressed.


Originality/value
Unlike the exclusively quantitative approach, the proposed KCE model balances both qualitative and quantitative approaches. First, it performed a face-to-face collaboration based on the Delphi method to deal with the unstructured cognition, opinions, and comments of the invited participants. Second, it developed an evaluation model based on the consensus of the invited participants by using the AHP technique in which the perceived importance of measure item to their immediate super item (qualitative variable) is transformed into number (quantitative variable).
