Religious Diversity and the Right to Freedom of Religion in Vietnam Today
The aim of this article is to explore the nature of religious diversity, religious conflict and the implementaton of the right to freedom of religion in Vietnam today. Using comparative approaches in law, politics and cultures, as well as the findings from an empirical study on socicial conflict, the article identifies the trends and practices of religious diversity, the right to freedom of religion, and their relationship with social conflict. By looking at the ways in which human rights and the right to freedom of religion is provided in the Constitutions of Vietnam, the paper identifies the relationship between the respect for religion diversity and the right to freedom of religion with the solutions of social conflicts in religion, as well as examines the achievements and challenges in ensuring religious diversity and the right to freedom of religion in the context of international intergration and development in Vietnam today. Collectivisation and Rice Production
In: The China quarterly, Band 9, S. 94-104
ISSN: 1468-2648
Until 1949, Communist rule was still restricted to states where wheat forms the basis of agricultural production. But when Mao Tse-tung extended his control to territories south of the Yangtse river, thereby enabling Ho Chi Minn to establish later a twin régime hi North Vietnam, the problem of collectivisation first appeared in tropical areas where rice is the main agricultural crop. From then on, an unforeseen problem of major importance has confronted the two Asian Communist leaders. Unlike their other colleagues in the Socialist camp, these two have had to adapt the rigorous norms of the collective system to the production of rice, an extremely delicate aquatic plant. Their relentless efforts to accomplish this are unprecedented and, now that the practical experiment has been in progress for several years, it is possible to make a preliminary appraisal of the results.

The Risks in Agriculture, Farmers' Responses and Support Solutions in Nghe An
This study focuses on analyzing the risks that affect in agricultural production and response of farmers. Research data was collected in Nghe An, Vietnam with 200 samples, audited by Binary Logistic Model. The research results show that the main risks affecting agriculture in Nghe An are mainly weather risks, pest risks and economic risks. And to cope with those risks, farmers have chosen a number of response measures, based on the support of the government, that have yielded clear results. The study provides empirical evidence on the current situation of risk identification and how to choose to respond to risks in agriculture, offering solutions to help improve the agricultural risk management framework in Nghe An, Vietnam.

Implementation of clinical breast examination screening programme as part of primary care in Vietnam: An analysis of contextual factors
In: World medical & health policy
ISSN: 1948-4682
AbstractClinical breast examination (CBE) screening for breast cancer in Vietnam was proved to be cost‐effective and acceptable to women. However, the outcomes of the implementation of such proposed programme are unknown. To inform the design and implementation planning of the proposed screening programme, this study investigated and analysed the contextual factors of implementing a CBE programme as part of primary care in Vietnam. Regarding methods, the Breast Health Global Initiative Framework and its seven contextual domains for breast cancer health care (including i. epidemiological, ii. policy/legal, iii. geographical/environmental, iv. service and organisational, v. financial, vi. social and economic, vii. cultural and psychosocial) guided the programme implementation analysis. Literature review, documentary analysis of polices, and key informant interviews (with representatives of health authorities at all four levels of Vietnam health system) were used to gather data for each domain. The results show that Vietnam's policy context pointed to the focus on cancer early detection through screening. According to key informants, district level was the most appropriate level for organising and delivering a CBE programme, and only doctors should perform a CBE. Knowledge about breast cancer and perceived susceptibility to receiving a breast cancer diagnosis was positively associated with CBE uptake. In conclusions, the current policy framework supports the implementation of a CBE screening programme in Vietnam. CBE should be performed by doctors, at the district level, and alongside health promotion.
Can tourism enhance inclusitivity for indigenous peoples? Cham perspectives on tourism benefit sharing at living heritage sites in Vietnam
In: Equality, diversity and inclusion: an international journal, Band 43, Heft 6, S. 959-984
ISSN: 2040-7157
PurposeThrough a case study of the Po Klaong Girai temple in Vietnam, this paper explores how indigenous community perceive tourism benefit sharing (TBS) associated with their cultural tourism at sacred living-heritage sites and how this TBS enhances the equality and inclusion for indigenous community in the context of tourism in Vietnam.Design/methodology/approachThis study employed ethnographic fieldwork and semi-structured interviews with 35 indigenous Cham priests directly associated with managing and preserving the Po Klaong Girai temple.FindingsThis research found that Cham community perceive inequality and exclusivity on tourism benefit sharing at this religious site. While Cham Ahier priests face economic barriers in providing these services to the community, annual tourism revenue is allocated to local government budgets. Such economic pressure forces the priests to seek alternative economic avenues to support their families at the expense of their traditional commitments to communal, cultural and religious activities, significantly impacting sustainable heritage conservation. This has led to strained relations between the local community and local authorities.Practical implicationsThis research provides evidence to improve living heritage management practices by proposing tourism development policies for equality and inclusion among stakeholders, especially minorities and disadvantaged groups. This can be an experiential and necessary lesson for "dealing" with sustainable heritage management in heritage living sites in other ethnic minority areas in Vietnam and globally.Originality/valueThe findings from this study address the knowledge gap on equitable revenue sharing in heritage tourism, where financial benefits from the commodification of minority cultures should be used to support local communities and the custodians of indigenous heritage.
Core Design of a Small Pressurized Water Reactor with AP1000 Fuel Assembly Using SRAC and COBRA-EN Codes
In: Science and technology of nuclear installations, Band 2020, S. 1-7
ISSN: 1687-6083
This paper presents the core design and performance characteristics of a 300 MWt small modular reactor (SMR) with fuel assemblies of the AP1000 reactor. Numerical calculations have been performed to evaluate a proper active core size and core loading pattern using the SRAC code system with the JENDL-4.0 data library and the CORBRA-EN code. The calculated temperature coefficients including fuel temperature, coolant temperature, and isothermal temperature coefficient provide adequate negative reactivity feedbacks. The thermal-hydraulic analysis reveals acceptable radial and axial fuel element temperature profiles with significant safety margin of fuel and clad surface temperature. A safety analysis using the CORBRA-EN code shows that the core will remain covered during the entire transient procedure of the fast transient of remarkably increasing power that would be caused by the ejection of control rod. The analysis results indicate that the core with a cycle length of 2.22 years is achievable while satisfying the operation and safety-related design criteria with sufficient margins.
