Since its inception in 1951, the Bhoodan (land gift) movement has gone through many changes and developmental phases. However, as before, its goal remains the uplift of the weaker section of Indian society. After briefly reporting how the Bhoodan movement came about, the article explores the direction the movement has taken in recent years and critically appraises its ideology and achievements. (DÜI-Sen)
