Die Bedeutung der Vergewaltigung als Terrorinstrument männlicher Herrschaft und als Aspekt von Herrschaft im allgemeinen Sinn wird untersucht. Die historisch-soziologische Analyse bezieht sich auf die USA von 1860 bis zur Gegenwart. Es wird gezeigt, daß die Gewalt gegen den Körper der Frauen in der Form der Vergewaltigung in der Zeit der "reconstruction" in den Südstaaten der USA mit der Gewalt gegen den Körper der Männer in der Form des Lynchens verknüpft war. Nach Ansicht der Verfasserin war beides nötig für eine Gesellschaft, die die Kontrolle des Mannes über die Frau sowie die Kontrolle des weißen Mannes über die weiße und schwarze Frau sowie den schwarzen Mann aufrechterhalten und legitimieren wollte. Eine wirksame Gegenwehr gegen die Vergewaltigung ist nach ihrer Theorie nur möglich, wenn die Vorurteile über die Geschlechter und über die Rassen überwunden werden. (HA)
