After September 11th and due to the Golden Age of television fiction, war representation on TV series appears interesting for scholars. War World II, War of Irak and the "War on Terror" are the main plots in many prestigious TV shows. This article aims to deepen into the relation between television fiction and History studying the representation of the war and its impact on the creation of social traumas. Two television series will be analyzed, Band of Brothers (HBO, 2001) and Genera-tion Kill (HBO, 2008). This study will be focused on three vectors: political- historical conflict, role of United States in this war and the psychological impact of this war on the main characters. ; Tras los ataques terroristas del 11 de Septiembre de 2001, una particular representación de la guerra aparece como argumento central de prestigiosas series televisivas contemporáneas. Este artículo pretende indagar en la relación existente entre ficción televisiva e Historia estudiando la representación de la guerra en estas narraciones audiovisuales. Para ello, se analizarán los pilotos de dos distinguidas series de televisión cuya temática central se basa en dos contiendas en la que Estados Unidos ha ocupado un papel destacado: Band of Brothers (HBO, 2001) y Generation Kill (HBO, 2008). El estudio se centrará en tres vectores principalmente: el conflicto político-histórico tratado, el papel que juega EE.UU. como país en esa guerra y el impacto psicológico de la contienda en los personajes.

This article proposes a critical perspective on the tradition of media literacy research in Spain in order to examine how Spanish scholars are facing challenges on public policy, and more specifically school curricula, regarding media education. Research in media literacy in Spain (known as educomunicación in Spanish) has moved forward through the interest of scholars and other groups, such as journalists and school teachers, who have raised awareness on the need to develop a critical and creative media learning system. This article will review a) the European and Hispanic heritages on media literacy in Spain, b) main current research groups and projects focusing on media education and c) academic policy on digital competence in formal learning. Lastly, this article will suggest some recommendations on education and policy that will help gain more support among academia, media and citizens within the European and Latin American context.

The research about the concept of influence on Twitter is still underdeveloped. This work is a theoretical and empirical approach on how politicians are engaging with citizens and/or journalists, and how these social conversations are framed under specific topics and users. The idea of new influentials on political communication in the new media ecosystem, as some studies found (Dang-Xuan et al, 2013), can offer empirical pursuit of the suggested 'two-step flow model' as applied to the agenda-setting process (Weimann et al., 2007) in the case of the microblogging for campaigning online. Following the recent research about how politicians try to reach their potential audience (Vaccari and Valeriani, 2013; 2013a), this paper analyses the social conversations on Twitter driven by politicians, the main topics in these political conversations and the kind of flows of communication (direct or indirect) between politicians, journalists and citizens. This research explores the differences and similarities about influence on Twitter during European elections in two countries with similar political and economic contexts: Portugal and Spain.

Este artículo presenta el diseño de una investigación a escala europea acerca del consumo de medios de comunicación como un recurso democrático. Mediante una combinación de entrevistas en profundidad, cuestionarios y métodos Q, se completa una evaluación crítica de las ventajas e inconvenientes que estas innovaciones metodológicas pueden suponer para la investigación en comunicación. El diálogo establecido entre equipos de treces países se traduce en una reflexión pertinente acerca de los retos que implica la investigación comparada a escala internacional. Además, la incorporación de los métodos Q como parte central del diseño metodológico supone una oportunidad de aprendizaje y exploración para conectar las aproximaciones cuantitativas y cualitativas en las Ciencias Sociales. La explicación detallada de las decisiones adoptadas durante un proceso de más de dos años de duración se ofrece como una invitación al debate y a la aplicación de estas técnicas para la recogida y análisis de datos. ; This article presents the methodological design of an ongoing research project conducted across Europe about the media consumption as a democratic resource. By means of a combination of in-depth interviews, questionnaires and Q methods, a critical evaluation of the benefits and limitations that these methodological innovations could bring to Communication Research is completed. The dialogue established between teams of thirteen different countries fosters a necessary discussion about the challenges imposed by comparative research at international scale. Moreover, the incorporation of Q methods as a central part of the methodological strategy turns into an opportunity to learn and explore the connections between quantitative and qualitative approaches to Social Sciences. The detailed explanation of the decisions taken by the research team during more than two years are offered as an invitation to public discussion and to the application of these techniques during both the data collection and data analysis phases.
