Ensino a Distância. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of remote AM in relation to the performance of Physical Education students in the Human Anatomy discipline. The study had the participation of 37 students, and the AM was carried out online throughout the semester. For data analysis, students were distributed into groups according to the evaluation moment, being organized into groups without monitoring (WM) and with monitoring (M). Comparison between groups was performed using Student's t test and Pearson's r test was used to verify the existence of a correlation between attendance at the AM and grade. To perform the statistics, the GraphPad Prism 6 program was used, with a minimum significance level of p < 0.05. In all partial evaluations carried out and in the final average of the participants, the Student's t test showed that there was no difference between the grades of the students in the WM and M groups. Pearson's r test demonstrated that there was no correlation between presence in the online AM and students' academic performance. These results were also maintained in all partial evaluations and in the students' final average+. Thus, it can be concluded that remote AM did not imply better student performance during emergency remote teaching. Keywords: Anatomy. Education, Distance. Higher Education. COVID-19.
Introduction: some plants such as turmeric, cinnamon, and okra are known to have therapeutic functions such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Furthermore, an immunomodulatory role has been observed in the production of antibodies, in particular immunoglobulin A (IgA), which mediates a variety of protective functions for the organism. Objective: the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of dietary plants on the production of IgA in healthy Wistar rats. Methods: thus, 48 male Wistar rats of 90 days of age were allocated to four groups. The animals were treated for 14 days with dried turmeric, cinnamon, or okra (50, 50, 12.5 mg/day, respectively) in phosphate buffered saline, or with only phosphate buffered saline by gavage. The animals received water and feed ad libitum. Body mass and relative weight ofperitoneal fat, adrenal gland, kidney, spleen, liver and thymus, biochemical parameters, and IgA levels were analyzed. Results: no significant changes were observed in the body mass, relative weight of organs and tissues, and biochemical parameters. An increase in serum IgA levels was observed in animals treated with turmeric or cinnamon. Conclusion: we conclude that the treatment with turmeric and cinnamon increased IgA production. Therefore, our study supports the idea that dietary supplementation with these plants may improve humoral immunity.
Ensino. AbstractNeuroanatomy is a complex aspect of the study of Human Anatomy, and academic monitoring (AM) is a dynamic way to familiarize the students with structures and contribute to the subjects assimilation. The objective of the study was to analyze the assiduity in AM activities with the students' performance. It is a descriptive, transversal, and quantitative study, carried out with 91 students linked to the Psychology and Physiotherapy courses. The students were divided into three groups: individuals who did not participate in AM (G1), participated in AM less often (G2) and those with more frequent participation in AM (G3), based on the participants' median frequency in AM. Statistical analysis was performed using the GraphPad Prism 6 program. It was observed that in both partial assessments, the individuals who showed greater attendance (G3) in AM had a better performance in relation to those who did not participate in AM (G1). When the final average was performed, it was observed that individuals with greater attendance (G3) performed better when compared to both G1 and G2. In addition, the Spearman test showed a positive correlation between presence and grade. The students who participate in the monitoring activities found pedagogical advantages, resulting in a better mastery of the teaching-learning process. Keywords: Anatomy. Teaching. Education.
Previous studies have demonstrated the immunological and hypercholesterolaemic effects of soluble dietary fibre and soy protein in rats. In this study, we evaluated the effects of oat bran and soy flour on humoral immune response in Wistar rats fed hypercholesterolaemic diets. Animals (6 groups) fed with different diets for 6 wks were inoculated twice with antigen (IgY). Plasma samples were collected after each inoculation and anti-IgY antibody (IgM, IgG1 and IgG2a) levels were evaluated by ELISA. Animals receiving 1% cholesterol presented an increase in anti-IgY IgG1 and a reduction in anti-IgY IgM and IgG2a relative to control animals. These effects were abrogated in animals fed 1% cholesterol and oat bran or oat bran+soy protein, but not in animals fed 1% cholesterol and soy protein. Diets containing 1% cholesterol resulted in hepatic lesions and higher liver and spleen relative weights, but did not affect lipid profile, weight gain, food intake, or food conversion efficiency. In conclusion, a high-cholesterol diet influences classes of antibodies produced in response to an antigen in a way that can be reversed by oat bran.
