The Lady in The Garden of Illusions: A Spinster's Framed Authority in Rituparno Ghosh's Film, The Lady of the House
In: New literaria: an international journal of interdisciplinary studies in humanities, Band 3, Heft 2, S. 47-55
ISSN: 2582-7375
Rituparno Ghosh's film Bariwali (The Lady of the House) throws ample light on a middleaged, lonely spinster's (Banalata) unrequited marital bliss or ungratified sexual desire that has been pent up and isolated in the cooped-up atmosphere of her sprawling estate, Mohini Malancha (Garden of Illusions). She kept to herself until Dipankar, a charming director, stepped into the vicinity of the said estate (her coiled self), and let her preconscious desires unravel completely. Eventually, it seems that Banalata stands in a liminal space for being a spinster (neither a wife, nor a widow). My paper would like to show how turning a spinster into the lady of the house inside the walls of a sprawling estate called Mohini Malancha (The Garden of Illusions) could be interpreted as a layered conspiracy of the new patriarchy. Moreover, the paper would like to trace how a liminal character's (spinster) sexual agency could pose a threat to weak patterns of patriarchy. Finally, my paper would like to argue how Ghosh decodes the received notions of a middle-age unmarried woman by peeping into her subliminal erotic desires but dares not to radicalize Banalata further and ends up in a womanist discourse.
A critical commentary on the proposals to reform India's financial system in its 2019–20 union budget
In: Journal of public affairs, Band 20, Heft 3
ISSN: 1479-1854
The 2019–20 Union budget aims to signal that the economic gains from cleaning of the financial system are likely to be recognizable in the future. The non‐performing assets in commercial banks have dropped substantively in last year subsequent to unprecedented recoveries over the past 4 years due to Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and other legal measures, provision coverage ratio is now at its highest in 7 years, and domestic credit growth has risen to 13.8%. The government has smoothly carried out the consolidation of public sector banks. However, the drop in banks' NPAs appears to be reflected by a liquidity squeeze and mirrored by mounting NPAs confronting the non‐banking finance company (NBFC). In addition, the problems are acute for the analyzed sub‐group of Housing Finance Corporations. While the government has announced its decision to streamline the regulatory processes within this sub‐sector, it has mandated the banks, the chief source of funds to mobilize capital for the NBFCs that appear vital to revive India's economic growth. The government has raised tax rates for the uber‐rich and import duties on a few articles such as Gold while offering tax credits on affordable housing and electric vehicles. It has attempted to improve the microstructure of the capital markets, mitigate inefficiencies in the pension space and enhance market penetration of insurance and incentivize foreign investment through budgetary proposals. This article offers a critical commentary on the proposed policy actions.
Evolving profiles of financial risk management in the era of digitization: The tomorrow that began in the past
In: Journal of public affairs, Band 20, Heft 2
ISSN: 1479-1854
The initial phases of digitization have automatized the front‐end of banks and financial institutions (FIs). This paper documents the automation of the back‐end in the current wave of digitization. In particular, it highlights the use of technology in streamlining risk management and its potential to provide competitive advantage to the FIs embracing digitization. For instance, automated "big data" credit scoring tools built on predictive analytics and machine learning algorithms are employed to examine several credit propositions. This can accurately construct the credit worthiness and risk profile of public, even without any credit history. These developments can widen the access of credit and other financial services to the society. However, on a cautionary note, this study emphasizes that although digitization of back‐end financial transactions carries substantive advantages, the FIs must be guarded against cyber, outsourcing, financial exclusion, and macrofinance risks that can manifest with this automation. In this backdrop, the need for robust yet agile regulations and supervisory counsel to control and exploit the digitization towards optimal benefits for banks and FIs and society at large, acquires salience. Furthermore, regulators and supervisory authorities can mitigate the digitization risks and prevent any public fallout by leveraging the use of digitization itself.

Embedded microcontroller interfacing: designing integrated projects
In: Lecture notes in electrical engineering, 65
Mixed-Signal Embedded Microcontrollers are commonly used in integrating analog components needed to control non-digital electronic systems. They are used in automatically controlled devices and products, such as automobile engine control systems, wireless remote controllers, office machines, home appliances, power tools, and toys. Microcontrollers make it economical to digitally control even more devices and processes by reducing the size and cost, compared to a design that uses a separate microprocessor, memory, and input/output devices. In many undergraduate and post-graduate courses, teaching of mixed-signal microcontrollers and their use for project work has become compulsory.

A Comparative Study on various Flight Termination System Technologies
In: Defence science journal: DSJ, Band 73, Heft 3, S. 351-361
ISSN: 0011-748X
In a test range, a Flight Termination System (FTS) plays a prominent role in protecting range and flight personnel along with surrounding area population in case the flight vehicle is out of its trajectory range and possesses a threat to surrounding. An efficient FTS should posses high Signal to Noise Ratio, link robustness to ensure reliable communication between ground transmitting and onboard receiving systems and should be immune to interference. This article presents a detailed report on the requirement and features of FTS & technologies used in it. Techniques such as tone based, code based and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) are considered. Analysis of RF spectrum, gain and noise figure measurement and channel power are presented. Advanced methods like Enhanced Flight Termination System (EFTS) and Autonomous Flight Termination System (AFTS) are considered which show supportable and upgradable technologies, better range understanding, unique vehicle id & higher data rate. AFTS being self-reliant provides superior performance in terms of GPS, launch responsiveness, multiple flight vehicle control and auto pilot.
