It is contended that the UK government should have demonstrated the foresight to withdraw its involvement in the March 2003 US-led coalition attacks against Iraq. The authors substantial political experience, including two personal visitations to former Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz, is recounted to illuminate how fallacious reasoning & personal agendas solidified the UK governments support for the invasion of Iraq; for instance, it is argued that the UK government failed to acknowledge the deleterious consequences of dissolving the Iraqi Army & the potential for terrorists retributive attacks against UK domestic targets. It is subsequently asserted that the coalition attacks against Iraq have reduced European security & have transformed the Middle East into an enormous training ground for terrorists; furthermore, it is stressed that the continued US & UK occupation of Iraq could de-legitimize the authority of the elected Iraqi government. Consequently, Western societies are encouraged to develop a more sophisticated understanding of terrorists motives. J. W. Parker
