This qualitative ethnographic research is focused on Jewish Iranians currently living in Iran. I examine the vital role of gender, ethnicity, religion, class, family, and community in daily social and cultural practices among middle-class Judeo-Persians living in Tehran. This research promotes cultural awareness and examines the continuing presence of Jewish Iranians in the cultural and social landscape of contemporary Iran. In addition, I explore how the lives of Tehrani urban upper- and middle-class Jewish women have changed, addressing social demographic, structural, and cultural factors that impact their experiences as an ethnoreligious minority both during the Pahlavi era and in the current context of the Islamic Republic.

This article addresses the lack of gender specificity in immigration literature on ethnic economies. In particular women's work in income-generating economic activity in ethnic enterprises is unveiled. Immigrant Iranian women's combined utilization of ethnic, gender, and class resources in the ethnic economy of Los Angeles is examined through two case studies of women's entrepreneurial endeavors in family-run businesses and in home-operated businesses. This article illustrates how ethnic resources are gender specific and that there is differential access to these resources in the ethnic economy.

When compared with domestic business operations, multinational corporations include fewer women at managerial levels in their foreign subsidiaries. Debates have ensued regarding whether women's absences from these positions are due to lack of the particular managerial abilities required for international assignments. In this article we argue that too much has been assumed about the sociopsychological requirements for international management, both for men and women. Through critical re-analyses of data from a previous study we contend that understanding `women's advantages/disadvantages' in international management requires understanding women's structural positions in the First World-Third World political economy.
