The shifting focus of service from the 1980s to 2000s has proved that IT not only lowers the cost of service but creates avenues to enhance revenue through service. In particular, companies increase revenue through IT-based services. The new type of service, e-service, has several features such as being mobile, flexible, interactive, and interchangeable. Additionally, e-services have much to offer in terms of overcoming obstacles faced by a traditional services industry. The concept of service science, which was proposed by IBM, combines several issues into traditional service management, such as the disciplines of technology and engineering. While service science provides an avenue for future service researches, the specific research areas from the IT perspective still needs to be elaborated. This book introduces a novel concept, service mining, to address several research areas from the viewpoints of technology, model, management, and application. Service mining is defined as "a systematical process including service discovery, experience, recovery, and retention to discover unique patterns and exceptional values within the existing services." The goal of service mining is similar to data mining, text mining, or web mining--it aims to "detect something new" from the service pool. The major difference is the feature of service is quite distinct in its mining target such as data or text. In other words, service is a process of value co-creation and difference in the perception of various customers. In the concept of service mining, the target is not only the traditional services but also IT-based services. Service mining is a branch under the big umbrella of service science. The goals of this book are to devise various concepts of service mining and to identify different possible applications. The contribution is to furnish a roadmap of service mining to researchers, managers, and marketers in service sectors
In the past decades, while global industrial progress has generally improved people's life, poverty, plague, and scarcity of resources are still major challenges for residents in many areas. Even in a modern society, catastrophe caused by a war or weather also often impacts its security and stability. In nations faced with such humanitarian challenges, many voluntary groups have been formed to assist hard-pressed governments in mitigating various crises. The purpose of this session is to discuss my current research project on workplace learning for those people who provide humanitarian assistance internationally.

AbstractFinancial barriers may restrict women's ability to use their preferred contraceptive methods, especially long‐acting reversible contraceptives (LARC). Providing free access to a broad contraceptive method mix, including both LARC and short‐acting reversible contraceptives (SARC), may increase contraceptive use, meet women's various fertility needs, and increase their agency in contraceptive decisions. Linking facility and individual data from eight countries in sub‐Saharan Africa, we use a propensity score approach combined with machine learning techniques to examine how free access to a broad contraceptive method mix affects women's contraceptive choice. Free access to both LARC and SARC was associated with an increase of 3.2 percentage points (95 percent confidence interval: 0.006, 0.058) in the likelihood of contraceptive use, driven by greater use of SARC. Among contraceptive users, free access did not prompt women to switch to LARC and had no effect on contraceptive decision‐making. The price effects were larger among older and more educated women, but free access was associated with lower contraceptive use among adolescents. While free access to contraceptives is associated with a modest increase in contraceptive use for some women, removing user fees alone does not address all barriers women face, especially for the most vulnerable groups of women.

PurposeIn the global migration crisis COVID 19 had devastating consequences. Workers were confined to their locations due to travel restrictions and working from home became "working away from home" for millions of migrant workers. Mobile financial services emerged as key to livelihood of the mobile remittance recipients. It is essential for service providers to gain insights of users' motives to use mobile remittance services.Design/methodology/approachThis study proposed the model by extending unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model and integrating by perceived cost (PC) and perceived security (PS). Based on the survey data (n = 344) the proposed model was tested using analysis of variance (ANOVA) analysis.FindingsThe findings reveal that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, PC and PS affect the users' behavioral intention (BI) to use mobile remittance applications. Social influence nonsignificantly affects the BI and there is no significant influence of facilitating conditions on user behavior.Originality/valueThe volume of migrant workers preCOVID 19 reached 3.5% of the global population, the shear number of unprotected workers plunged into devastation by the COVID-19 impact is huge to cause an economic meltdown. Under the pandemic crisis conditions, the findings provide several practical implications on how service providers could improve their products and services to increase mobile remittance applications usage.

We investigated the mediating role of school connectedness in the relationship between stressful life experience and online gaming addiction among elementary school children. In addition, we investigated whether this mediation process is moderated by gratitude. Participants were 579
upper elementary school students in China, who completed a survey regarding stressful life experience, school connectedness, gratitude, and online gaming addiction. Results showed that school connectedness partially mediated the relationship between stressful life experience and online gaming
addiction. Moreover, this indirect association was moderated by gratitude, with a stronger indirect effect observed for children with low gratitude and a weaker indirect effect observed for those with high gratitude. Empirical implications of the findings, limitations in the study, and future
directions for related research are discussed.
