Background: Leadership is viewed as the panacea the complex problems in modern health care where chronic disease, contracting budgets and rising consumer expectation are challenging care provision. As the second largest workforce in Australia, Allied Health Professionals (AHP) are core contributors to health teams however they are largely absent from leadership positions and there is little evidence of their impact on client outcomes.Aim: A scoping review was carried out to synthesise evidence on the client, organisational and employee-related outcomes of high quality leadership in Allied Health.Method: A search of grey literature, peer and non-peer reviewed literature was undertaken using Embase, Emcare, SCOPUS and Psychinfo from 2010-2017. Data were sourced from journals, government reports, conference presentations and other grey literature. The reference list of key articles were hand searched for relevant research.Results: A total of 5880 articles were identified and after screening 35 articles were included for in depth review. Leadership contributed towards positive outcomes in all three domains and had influence across professional groups and services. Leaders are highly valued and respected by their teams. Allied Health leaders did not feature in any of the articles and AHP were the focus of only seven studies. The majority of articles were conference papers or case reviews that provided little robust data making it difficult to draw substantive conclusions on the outcome of AHP leadership.Conclusion: There was a lack of robust data specific to AHP leaders. Future research should attempt to gather evidence of the outcomes of AHP leadership through qualitative and quantitative means to substantiate the anecdotal evidence for high quality AHP leaders.

AbstractThis Australian study compared perspectives of family quality of life (FQOL) of parents of preschool children attending early childhood intervention services (ECIS) with parents of school‐aged children with disability. It examined the relationships between disability‐related services, parent occupations, and FQOL. Two mixed‐methods studies with 122 participants and 24 in‐depth interviews were conducted. The first study included 72 parents attending ECIS. The second study included 50 parents of school‐aged children with disability. The quantitative aspect (N = 122) used the Beach Center FQOL survey and a demographic questionnaire. Twelve semistructured interviews were conducted for each study. Spearmann's Rho correlations for quantitative data analysis and thematic analysis for qualitative data were used for each study. A two‐way analysis of variance along with a qualitative comparative analysis were conducted to compare the findings from both studies. Results indicated lower scores on FQOL in parents with school‐aged children when compared with the ECIS group. Loss of work, lack of time for caregiver health, lack of respite, and interim residential care had detrimental impacts on parents' long‐term well‐being. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the hardships and challenges of caregiving increase as the child gets older; however, positive adaptations, beliefs, and positive transformations help FQOL. Family‐centered care and supportive practitioners assist FQOL and are highly recommended.

In many developing countries, transportation infrastructure development lags behind the tremendous growth in motorization. Road traffic injuries cause enormous morbidity and mortality worldwide, placing heavy burdens on global and national economies. .Underdeveloped transportation infrastructures critical to traffic safety include roadway improvement, occupant protection laws, traffic law enforcement, and emergency medical services (EMS). Highlighting one important aspect of lagging infrastructure, this article focuses on emergency medical services. This research study offers a descriptive evaluation of the existing pre-hospital care system in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The research objectives were (a) to describe how emergency rescue services are organized in Chiang Mai, (b) to examine ongoing public health efforts to improve emergency services, and (c) to document the training, certification, employment, and medical use of pre-hospital personnel. Thailand's national and local pre-hospital services (i.e., services designed to transfer persons with traffic injuries into the country's hospital infrastructure) are both insufficient and inefficient. The Thai National Government has promised funding to create a national EMS network by 2006. Research recommendations for Thailand EMS include more professional training for emergency workers, standardization of equipment, centralization of communications, and further analysis of competitive services.
