STUDY ATTEMPTS TO EXAMINE GREEK CIVIL-MILITARY RELATIONS BY ANALYZING DATA ON MILITARY ACADEMY CADETS, WHICH PROVIDES A PROFILE OF ALL PROSPECTIVE GREEK OFFICERS, AS WELL AS DATA ON POLITICAL ELITES, PARLIAMENTARIANS & CABINET OFFICERS. THE ANALYSIS SHOWS THAT SALIENT CONFLICTS IN GREEK SOCIETY ARE REFLECTED IN CIVIL-MILITARY RELATIONS, AND THE IMPLICATIONS OF THESE FINDINGS ARE EXAMINED.

Considers how black Christians have survived and prospered in the church. Suggests that black Christians survive by being incarnated in their urban context and culture and by being immersed in the radical Christ; Jesus was always on the outside ministering on the inside. He knew 2 languages; the language of the religious and political leaders and the language of the oppressed, and taught his followers the same.

Examines the current Kurdish problem in Turkey, the Turkish government's reaction to the issues raised by this problem, & the challenge that the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) poses to Ankara through its tactics of intimidation & terrorism. This imbroglio is also detailed in both political & economic terms. Implications of this conflict for Turkey's relations with Europe, the US, & other regional players (eg, Syria, Iraq, & Iran) are analyzed. The conflict could jeopardize Turkey's relations with Europe & the US & limit Ankara's role as a stabilizing influence in the region, thereby limiting its role regionally & internationally. This linkage to the West will be very difficult to substitute. In addition, civil violence & terrorist acts by the PKK could deter foreign investments & undermine tourism, thus affecting Turkey's long-range economic plans. USING THE FULL POWERS GIVEN TO HIM IN THE CONSTITUTION AND HAVING THE MAJORITY SUPPORT OF THE MOTHERLAND PARTY IN PARLIAMENT, PRESIDENT OZAL USED THE PERSIAN GULF CRISIS AS A WAY TO BRING THE WHOLE STATE STRUCTURE UNDER HIS DIRECT POLITICAL CONTROL. THE PAPER CONCLUDES THAT THIS TREND WILL CONTINUE TURKEY'S NASCENT DEMOCRACY TOWARD AN INSTITUTIONALIZED, STRONG PRESIDENTIAL FORM OF GOVERNMENT.
