The article explores the process of western liberalization worldwide in the last 70 years and how it has shaped our current belief about health and consumption of healthcare services. It starts with the changing nature of public health at the expense of health promotion and the vulnerable position of WHO which allowed the rise of non-state actors within the global health agenda. It then follows with the process of globalization with the diffusion of western liberal ideologies globally and causing a rise in the medicalization of our daily life. With health increasingly being used in political discourse, we have seen a rise in welfare state and its associated ill-effects on healthcare services. Lastly, the article explores the recently developed concept of global public health goods and how from parallel issues, is unlikely to be not beneficial to the global health agenda. It is concluded with the recommendation of global actors need to evolve to use their domain of expertise to advance the agenda including the need for self-financing strategies for independence in policymaking. There is also the urgent need to foster regional collaboration for accountability and conduct research and development with cost-effectiveness and equity in the early stages.
