The Relevance of Citizen Co-Creation for the Effectiveness of Public Health Campaigns: Results from the Evaluation of a HIV Prevention Campaign in Switzerland
In: Zeitschrift für öffentliche und gemeinwirtschaftliche Unternehmen: ZögU ; zugleich Organ der Gesellschaft für Öffentliche Wirtschaft = Journal for public and nonprofit services, Band 42, Heft 1-2, S. 34-46
ISSN: 2701-4215
While decreasing public health budgets force campaign managers to spend money more wisely, many public health campaigns still use traditional communication channels and neglect the great potential of citizen co-creation, the active involvement of the target group. This article provides an overview of the issue of citizen co-creation in the context of public health campaigns and presents a case study of an HIV campaign in Switzerland as an example of applied citizen co-creation. The incremental effect of word of mouth on campaign effectiveness and efficiency is examined, showing how citizen co-creation can be quantified in the context of evaluating a campaign. Finally, the article suggests practical implications for the design and evaluation of future public health campaigns involving citizen co-creation.

The EU enlargement? : influence on european logistics and the Swiss economy
The European Union is about to experience one of the greatest challenges in its history. On 16 April 2003, the European Council signed the Treaty of Accession with 10 Centre and Eastern European countries in Athens. As with every great change of system the treaty will increase the complexity of the EU, unbalance the existing powers, and as a result has the inherent danger of unstabilising the whole European economy. Yet, at the same time, it provides a great opportunity to change many political, economic and social aspects with the aim of creating a prosperous, stable and peaceful Europe. The EU is by far the most important trade partner of Switzerland, therefore the Enlargement will have an significant impact on various sectors of the Swiss economy as well. In order to assess the advantages and disadvantages of a larger EU, one has to examine its influences on logistics. The dramatic increase in the traffic and movement of goods through lower trade barriers has to be taken into consideration as well as the crash of the heavy industry and the lower wages of the working force in the Candidate Countries. To measure the impact of the Enlargement on logistics and the Swiss Economy it is essential to view the change in a holistic way. With the help of macro and micro analyses of the issue one will be able to obtain the answers to the main question: How will the logistics of Swiss and European companies be influenced by the growth of the EU and how can logistics managers prepare for this enormous task? Existing transport and production strategies need to be reviewed in order to profit from the opportunities presented by the new market. Further, companies have to develop plans to cope with the new competition from the Candidate Countries. Managers have to decide if their existing logistic systems are robust and flexible enough to manage the increased flow. Only Swiss companies ready to reconsider their logistics and production systems, become acquainted with the potential of the new market, which have good relationships with business partners on location and which have an open mind towards the new culture will be able to profit from the greatest opportunity in the early history of the European Union.

One cert fits all? : challenges of assessing care excellence in health organizations : insights from the research project "Swiss care excellence certificate"
There is an increasing relevance of quality management certifications for health care organizations to assess, improve and communicate their quality of care. However, certification procedures, such as ISO, applied to the health care sector were originally developed for the manufacturing industry. Therefore, the focus of their assessments lies in the management systems of organizations that are criticized for being too generic. However, medical and care services constitute the main value creation of a health care provider. Consequently, a quality certification should focus on the quality of the medical treatment and care procedures and standards. Several authors indicate a lack of research on such care-specific certification procedures. This article demonstrates the need for a high quality of care certification, discusses the seven key challenges in the development of a Swiss certificate for care excellence and provides an outlook of the ongoing government-funded project "Swiss care excellence certificate".
