En este trabajo se examinan los principales hitos de la reforma operada en el mercado bancario en materia de regulación y supervisión de las entidades de crédito, que ha dado lugar al establecimiento de un marco regulatorio armonizado a nivel internacional. Se presta atención a la armonización a través de normas de soft law y, especialmente, a la armonización mediante hard law que ha tenido lugar en el ámbito de la Unión Europea, en donde el proceso unificador ha culminado con la creación de la Unión Bancaria y la instauración de un mecanismo único de supervisión y un mecanismo único de resolución para las entidades financieras de la zona euro. El trabajo concluye con el examen de los retos que la regulación bancaria tiene planteados en estos momentos tanto para completar la Unión Bancaria como para hacer frente a los actuales y futuros desafíos de la revolución digital ; This paper examines the main milestones of the reform in the banking market in terms of regulation and supervision of credit institutions, which has led to the establishment of a harmonized regulatory framework at the international level. Attention is paid to harmonization through soft law standards and, especially, to hard law harmonization that has taken place within the European Union, where the unification process has culminated with the creation of the Banking Union and the establishment of a single supervision mechanism and a single resolution mechanism for financial institutions in the euro area. The paper concludes with an examination of the challenges that banking regulation has at the moment, both to complete the Banking Union and to face the current and future challenges of the digital revolution
