Abstract
There has been growing interest in and calls for wellness and well-being among the population. Scientific research has expanded the study of social well-being and its positive impact on human life since half-century. This study explores the measurement of social well-being within the context of global attempts to adapt codified measures of this concept. International studies have proven that the Social Well-Being Scale (SWBS) is an acceptable measure and has a high level of validity and reliability. This study adapts the short form of the SWBS to Arabic culture using a sample of Emiratis (N = 328). The results show that this scale is useful and accurate for assessing social well-being in Arab culture.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia can be described as a young nation in terms of its date of creation and its rapidly increasing proportion of children and young people in its population. Various sources have been cited to explain the causes and describe the consequences of child poverty and youth unemployment. The factors mentioned for future verification are the interrelationship between, on the one hand, government and religion, social conservatism, sensitivity to criticism, unmatched education, and development policies, and, on the other hand, the general attitude of the Saudi youth toward a job versus a dreamed position in a government office. This article aims to raise awareness and to generate further discussions in, and investigations of, both the public and private sectors, so as to harness the vast resources of Saudi Arabia, mainly derived from oil, to appropriately address the rising issues of child poverty and youth unemployment.

It is only in recent times that there has been recognition of alcohol abuse in Saudi Arabia, and social, psychological and health implications are now acknowledged. This study measured craving among Saudi alcoholics and compared it with the levels of alcohol they consumed. The study used an instrument for measuring craving (Alcohol Craving Questionnaire) after identifying the subjects by means of a demographical questionnaire and testing their level of alcohol use by means of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test. The study concludes that all Saudi alcoholics experience levels of craving. The overall results of both scales indicate that all patients can be considered to be alcoholics and that they experience various levels of craving for alcohol.

Healthcare has evolved rapidly in Saudi Arabia, based upon a Western model of service which incorporates multi-disciplinary professional teams. Social work practice forms part of patient care. However, little is known about how social workers are integrated into the hospital setting. This study aims to investigate the involvement of hospital social workers with other professionals (e.g. physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, and psychologists). The study uses a qualitative approach to collect its data through a process of semi-structured interviews. The interviews' analysis indicated that medical social workers perceived limitations to effectively executing their tasks because of issues constraining the development of effective partnerships with other professional groups in the hospital.

Islam influences Muslim societies through rules, regulations, and legislation. This paper highlights Islamic principles and legislation that protect the rights and dignity of older adults and compares them to policies and laws that have been applied and implemented in the United Arab Emirates. A comparative method was utilised to conduct this study, relying on sources that present the rights of older adults in Islamic Sharia, as well as official sources from the United Arab Emirates, where information on laws and regulations related to older adults is published.
