Teachers' perceptions of students with additional support needs ; Öğretmenlerin desteğe ihtiyacı olan öğrencilere yönelik algıları
In Turkey, the special education population has steadily increased since 2010. As emphasized in the legislation, there is a heightened focus of inclusion of students with special needs in regular education settings in Turkey. Understanding teachers' perceptions of students with additional support needs (students with learning problems, students with behavioral problems and high-potential students) and examining how teachers perceive their roles and responsibilities while teaching these students are crucial. To address this gap in the literature, a researcher-created scale that includes 10 items, each of which consists of three dimensions was used in this study. The purpose of this study is to examine teachers' perceptions of students with learning problems, students with behavioral problems and high-potential students. This study included data analysis from 239 regular education teachers working in public elementary schools in Istanbul, Turkey. An independent sample t-test, a paired sample t-test, and a one-way analysis of variance were used for data analysis. Findings suggest that teachers' perceptions were more positive towards teaching students with learning problems either than perceptions of students with behavioral problems or than perceptions of high-potential students. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in teachers' perceptions of teaching students with learning problems, students with behavioral problems, and high-potential students by teachers' demographic characteristics. Results were discussed and recommendations were presented for future research. ; Türkiye'de özel eğitim popülasyonu 2010'dan itibaren istikrarlı şekilde yükselmektedir. Yasal düzenlemelerde belirtildiği gibi özel gereksinimleri olan öğrencilerin genel eğitim ortamına dahil edilmesine yönelik Türkiye'de artan bir eğilim mevcuttur. Öğretmenlerin desteğe ihtiyacı olan öğrenciler (öğrenme sorunları olan öğrenciler, davranış sorunları olan öğrenciler ve yüksek potansiyeli olan öğrenciler) ile ilgili algılarını anlama ve öğretmenlerin bu öğrencilerin eğitimlerine yönelik sorumluluk ve rollerini nasıl algıladıklarını inceleme önem arz etmektedir. Alanyazındaki bu eksikliği gidermek amacıyla, bu çalışmada araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilmiş ve her biri üç boyuttan oluşan 10 maddeli bir ölçek (Desteğe İhtiyacı Olan Öğrencilere Yönelik Öğretmen Algı Ölçeği) kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, öğrenme sorunları olan, davranış sorunları olan ve yüksek potansiyeli olan öğrencilerin eğitimine yönelik öğretmen algılarını incelemektir. Bu çalışma, Türkiye'de İstanbul ilinde devlet ilkokullarında görev yapan 239 öğretmenden elde edilen verilerin analizini içermektedir. Veri analizi için bağımsız örneklem t-testi analizi, bağımlı örneklem t-testi analizi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular, öğretmenlerin öğrenme sorunu olan öğrencilerin eğitimine yönelik algılarının hem davranış sorunu olan öğrencilerin eğitimlerine yönelik algılarından hem de yüksek potansiyeli olan öğrencilerin eğitimine yönelik algılarından daha olumlu olduğunu göstermektedir. Ayrıca, öğretmenlerin demografik özelliklerine göre öğrenme sorunu olan, davranış sorunu olan veya yüksek potansiyeli olan öğrencilerin eğitimine yönelik algılarında anlamlı bir fark bulunmamaktadır. Sonuçlar tartışılmış ve gelecek araştırmalara yönelik öneriler sunulmuştur.
