Many structural changes have occurred in the European Union countries, for example, there have been changes in sectoral employment share, in the demand of goods due to technology, in trade patterns and in technology. These structural changes may affect the process of convergence. Most of the existing studies on convergence have ignored the role of structural change, which may have resulted in different conclusion. This study considers the role of structural change in testing labour productivity convergence and its speed at the country, region and industry levels simultaneously. The results show that conditional convergence exists at country, regional and industry levels. However, speed of convergence is different across different aggregation levels. Convergence speed at the regional levels is faster than at the country and industry levels. Furthermore, if we do not incorporate structural change, convergence speed may be over- or underestimated.

The importance of agriculture in the economy of Pakistan is
well established. Agricultural plays an important role both directly and
indirectly in generating economic activity, growth and development.
Agriculture has strong backward and forward linkages and is vital to the
food security of the country. Fertilisers have played an important role
in Pakistan agriculture particularly in meeting the growing demand for
food grains, fibre, fuel and fodder. Fertiliser consumption has
increased during the last four decades to 2.6 million tonnes by 1997-98.
The use level is, however, not only sub optimal but also imbalanced.
Better plant nutrient management is, therefore, necessary for achieving
self reliance in agriculture.

The current study aims to investigate the role of personality and psychological attributes of finance managers in the success of their capital budgeting decisions in the industrial sector of Pakistan. For said purpose, we employ a sequential explanatory mixed-method research design. First, the MBTI scale is used to explore the personality traits of the managers working in spinning firms. Then based on the result of the MBTI scale, ten financial managers were selected for semi-structured interviews. NVIVO 11 was used to perform qualitative data analysis. It is established from the results of thematic analysis; the commander is the most effective personality trait of managers for the successful capital budgeting decisions followed by executive, defender, virtuoso, and logistician. Further, the present study also establishes a significant connection between the personality traits of successful managers and their Psychological attributes.

AbstractThis article analyses differences in dynamic transitions into and out of any of the five hourly wage quintiles and quintile zero (unemployed and non‐employed people) between immigrants and natives for the period 1993‐2004. Using Longitudinal Level data from Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics (SLID) for men aged 25 to 55, we investigate how unobserved heterogeneity factors and initial conditions may affect individuals' propensity to stay in or leave any of the wage quintiles. We also consider a dynamic multinomial logit model with the random effects approach. Empirical results show that state dependence exists in all hourly wage quintiles. Moreover, education, experience, marital status, immigrant minority status, and age at immigration are significant factors determining hourly wage differentials between immigrants and natives.

The study is aimed to investigate the effect of working capital management on the operational liquidity position of diverse manufacturing firms listed on Karachi Stock Exchange, Pakistan. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation analysis and Pooled (OLS) analysis techniques are applied on the balanced panel data set of 148 manufacturing firms for the period (Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2011). It is found that tight credit policy, efficiency of inventory management, delayed payment policy and overall efficiency of working capital management have significant positive effect on firm's operational liquidity position. But conservative strategy of investment in current assets and aggressive strategy of short terms financing are found to have negative effect on operational liquidity position of firms. The study suggested that operational liquidity position of listed manufacturing firms can be improved by using appropriate policies and strategies of working capital management. This study can be extended by investigating the differences in working capital management efficiency and working capital policies across various industries and their effect on various measures of liquidity position of firms.

This study investigates the effect of working capital management on profitability of 148 diverse manufacturing firms listed on Karachi Stock Exchange, Pakistan for the period January 2006 to December 2011. The fixed effect and random effect models results revealed that firms' aggressive strategy of financing negatively affect the profitability. Moreover, tight credit policy, efficiency of stock-in-trade management, early payment policy and conservative strategy of investment in current assets are found to have significant positive effect on profitability of firms. Findings of the study suggested that profitability of firms can be improved by devising optimal working capital management policies and also emphasized the investigation of factors that must be considered by management while formulating appropriate working capital management policies.

AbstractIncreasing gender equality and enhancing women empowerment through work opportunities are the important steps in achieving sustainable development. The aim of this paper is threefold: (1) to empirically examine the relationship between women economic rights and economic growth for the global sample. (2) To explore whether the effect of women's economic rights is different across different economies. (3) This paper uses spatial econometric techniques to examine the impact of women's economic rights on neighbouring countries. For empirical purpose, we use the data for 171 countries over the period 1960–2016. The results show that women's economic rights positively affect growth; however, the effect is heterogeneous across different economies. From spatial analysis, we confirm that 75% spillover effect of women economic rights is passing through neighbouring country. The results of this study are consistent and coherent with the EU policy about women's economic empowerment where it claims that joint effort in promoting women empowerment by all actors could lead to sustainable development and growth.
