The creation of major weapons should take place within the framework of the concept of development of the weapon system for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which takes into account the economic, military, political and geographical conditions of Ukraine.Today the concept can be formulated as follows: "The weapon system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be oriented to protect the territory of the state from an economically advanced adversary". Unfortunately, the implementation of the concept in such a formulation requires the abandonment of exaggerated ambitions, which is very difficult not only for the elderly, but for most of the middle generation. However, this allow to move from the creation of single high-value samples to the mass production of cheaper ones.Its basic principles should be:1. An asymmetric approach to determining the priorities for the development of armaments and military equipment by creating not analogues but models that can counteract them or make them impossible to function.2. Maximum use of civilian components in armaments and military equipment.3. Carrying out maintenance and repair operations by suppliers of components and transferring the repair stock to their base (refusal of spare parts storage).4. Diversification of component suppliers with full block unification.5. The principle of 100% guaranteed provision of needs.The development of new weapons in the framework of the proposed concept will solve, for example, the problem of improvement of ballistic protection of light and heavy armoured vehicles.It is shown that the problems concerning the improvement of bal-listic protection of combat armoured vehicles arise due to the lack of a conceptual approach to their combat employment that should be based on understanding of the asymmetry of war with the actual enemy.It is stated that all elements of a combat vehicle should function as a system of protection of personnel (crew) and weapons, depending on the purpose of the vehicle. At the same time, the existing approach aims to preserve all the elements of the combat vehicle by placing them behind-the-armour space, which increases its volume and does not allow to increase its thickness due to the significant increase in mass. This, in turn, necessitates the use of light-alloy and ceramic armour materials as well as combinations of them, despite the fact that their price outweighs the cost of steel armour tenfold. ; Створення основних зразків озброєння повинно відбуватися у рамках концепції побудови системи озброєння для потреб Збройних Сил України, яка враховує економічні, воєнно-політичні та природно-географічні умови України.На сьогодні вона може бути сформульована таким чином: «Система озброєння ЗС України повинна бути орієнтована на захист території держави від економічно значно переважаючого противника». На жаль, реалізація концепції в такому формулюванні потребує відмови від завищених амбіцій, що є дуже важким не тільки для старшого, але і для великої частини середнього покоління. Однак, це дозволить перейти від створення одиничних високовартісних зразків до масового виробництва більш дешевих зразків.Основними її принципами повинні стати:1. Асиметричний підхід до визначення пріоритетів розвитку ОВТ шляхом створення не аналогів, а зразків, що здатні їм протидіяти або унеможливлювати їх функціонування.2. Максимальне застосування у зразках ОВТ цивільних комплектуючих.3. Проведення операцій технічного обслуговування та ремонту постачальниками комплектуючих та перенесення ремонтного фонду на їх базу (відмова від складування запасних частин).4. Диверсифікація постачальників комплектуючих за умови повної поблочної уніфікації.5. Принцип гарантованого забезпечення 100% штатної потреби.Розробка нових зразків озброєння у рамках запропонованої концепції дозволить вирішити, наприклад, проблему підвищення балістичного захисту легко- та важкоброньованої техніки.Показано, що проблема підвищення рівня балістичного захисту бойових броньованих машин виникає через відсутність концептуального підходу до їх бойового застосування, котрий має базуватися на розумінні асиметричності війни з існуючим противником.Зазначено, що усі елементи бойової машини повинні функціонувати як система захисту особового складу (екіпажу) і озброєння в залежності від призначення зразка. Водночас, існуючий підхід має за мету забезпечити збереження усіх елементів зразка шляхом розташування їх в заброньовому просторі, що збільшує його об'єм і не дає змоги збільшити його товщину, через значне зростання маси. Це, у свою чергу, призводить до необхідності застосування легкосплавних, керамічних броньових матеріалів та їх комбінацій незважаючи на те, що їх ціна переважає вартість сталевої броні у десятки разів.
