; The article is devoted to the consideration of the initial stage of transformation of the relationship between society, religion and the state in the period of formation of new state religious policy, which is characterized by displacement of the Church from the sphere of public life. Indeed the provisions of the religious denominations in the life of the new Soviet state radically different from the places occupied by Church organizations in the history of the Russian Empire. Religious organizations were withdrawn outside of public life, the state significantly restricted and then banned their operations. The author analyzed on the example of the Buryat-Mongolian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the complex of measures aimed at restricting the activities of religious denominations. Conducted by the Soviet government rate in the 20-ies. XX century in the Republic, in General, did not have a repressive nature and combined with the measures of the administrative and tax pressure on the community of believers. Peculiarity of this process was that it was held in the conditions of multi-confessional region, characterizing the originality of decisions. As a result of the carried out research the author comes to the conclusion that a strengthening of the internal religiosity of the population in response to the anti-religious propaganda, and the prohibition of the cultivation of religious practices and symbols.
