Donald Sassoon was born in Cairo & went to school in Paris, Milan & England. He went to University College London, the Pennsylvania State University & obtained his PhD at Birkbeck College, University of London. Among his publications: One Hundred Years of Socialism (Deutscher Prize 1997, five translations), Mona Lisa (2001, ten translations), The Culture of the Europeans (2006, four forthcoming translations) & Mussolini & the Rise of Fascism (2008, four forthcoming translations). He is currently Professor of Comparative European History at Queen Mary, University of London. He is the Literary Editor of The Political Quarterly & on the hoard of a number of journals including Thesis Eleven. He was interviewed by Peter Beilharz in London in August 2006 & August 2007.
