International audience ; Background. Ethnic inequalities in health status and health care remain substantial in Europe and addressing them is becoming a priority. However, the best way to respond to such a challenge is, as yet, unclear. The research community is grappling with the contribution of socio-economic discrimination to ethnic inequalities. Methods. We present a new theoretical analysis, based on the landmark work of Charles Tilly on 'Durable Inequality' and we apply it to the public health goal of reducing ethnic health inequalities. Results. Tilly claims that, for organisational reasons, ethnic categories and socio-economic categories are tied together. The theory of Durable Inequality claims that the matching of ethnic categories with socio-economic categories helps to enforce exploitation, leading to durable inequalities. We present the theory, and focus on its main components (categories, exploitation, opportunity hoarding, emulation, adaptation) and discuss the implications for health inequalities by ethnic group. In essence, the theory leads to four recommendations for the study of ethnic health inequalities: (1) to investigate organisational processes creating ethnic health inequalities ; (2) to investigate the role of networks and ties on health behaviours, health care use and their psychological factors; (3) to define ethnicity through flexible, multidimensional binary categories, that should vary according to context; (4) to assess cumulative inequality within a domain, across domains and across generations. Conclusions. Our paper, to our knowledge is the first attempt to analyse Tilly's theory in relation to ethnicity and health, opens a debate to refine the implications of these ideas prior to empirical testing.

This article discusses linear complementary dual (LCD) codes over ℜ = Fq+uFq(u2=1) where q is a power of an odd prime p. Authors come up with a new Gray map from ℜn to F2nq and define a new class of codes obtained as the gray image of constacyclic codes over .ℜ Further, we extend the study over Euclidean and Hermitian LCD codes and establish a relation between reversible cyclic codes and Euclidean LCD cyclic codes over ℜ. Finally, an application of LCD codes in multisecret sharing scheme is given.

In an attempt to look at how content could be developed in dialogue with the use of visual documentary material, this article traces key ideas and references that were important to the making of an animation "FQ". A research blog, personal notes and references are used to reflect on the work. The animation was based on historical portraits of the Norwegian political pioneer, Fredrikke Marie Qvam (1843-1938), and created for outdoor screening in the main square in her home town. Research and documentary material formed a base for an animation that was conceptually inspired by photo theories from diverse sources as well as feminist film theories of the gaze. In this recent history of British sociology, Andrew Halsey suggests an intriguing connection between political economic régimes in the twentieth century and the development of sociology as an academic discipline, dividing British sociology into four periods, 1900-1950, 1950-1967, 1968-1975, and 1975-2000. In this way, by connecting disciplinary developments with contemporaneous régimes of economic regulation, Halsey begins to outline a sociology of sociology. However, although much of Halsey's book is informative, especially his description of the period from 1950-1967 when he personally entered the discipline, Halsey ultimately fails to develop his sociology of the discipline sufficiently, especially after 1967. Although it does not claim to be comprehensive, this essay attempts to develop Halsey's sociology of the discipline.
