International migration in the Republic of Korea consists of the migration of foreign workers into the country and the migration of Koreans to other countries. The need for human capital has made it a destination country for foreign workers while economic development has given its nationals the option to emigrate. As a destination country, the share of foreigners to the total population is relatively small compared to other destination countries in Asia. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Labor are the main sources for collecting data on international migration. Further improvements in data collection, production and dissemination are areas that need to be addressed.
