The change in climatic conditions has resulted in a series of events from the melting of polar ice to the rising of sea levels. This has affected low-lying coastal areas by endangering plants and animals, agriculture and livelihood patterns in general, not to mention causing the outbreak of diseases like dengue, malaria, etc. It is, thus, imperative that mitigation measures to stabilize or reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide is brought about. A key step is the bio-fixation of carbon from the atmosphere. This book attempts to bring forth the role of vegetation in carbon sequestration. The introductory chapters of the book deal with the understanding of the physical attributes governing climate on earth, historical account of climate change, impacts of climate change on different environs and eco-strategies to combat climate change. Detailed account of mechanism of carbon sources and sinks, carbon credits and REDD+ are also discussed. A sizeable portion of the book is dedicated to the climate change and phonological variability, clean development mechanism and economic stability through natural resource management. This text is a reference source covering the chemical elements that are nutrients for plants and animals. It deals with the concentrations and transformations of these elements in soils, grassland plants, and ruminant aniamls, particularly cattle and sheep.

In view of persistent global inequalities in scientific knowledge production with clear centers and peripheries, this paper examines a lingering concern for many scientists in the Global South: why is it, at times, so hard to have scientific insights from the South recognized? This paper addresses this big question from within a long-term field immersion in a Ugandan–Australian scientific collaboration in molecular biology. I show how disciplinary hierarchies of value affect the distribution of labor between Uganda and Australia and thematize the role of place and its affective atmospheres that texture the quotidian scientific work in this project. Unsurprisingly, they tend to devalue Ugandan sites and contributions, and turn Uganda into a rather unlikely site for new insights to emerge. However, in spite of doing devalued and outsourced "menial" labor such as fieldwork, Ugandan biologists' fieldwork involves affective encounters with their experimental banana plants that thereby become differently thinkable. The paper argues that attending to affective atmospheres that infuse research sites offers clues about scientists' position in global hierarchies and at the same time can help make room for insights that emanate from unexpected places.
