As one of the components of the National Highway System, Interstate Highways improve the mobility of military troops to and from airports, seaports, rail terminals, and other military bases. Interstate Highways also connect to other roads that are a part of the Strategic Highway Network, a system of roads identified as critical to the U.S. Department of Defense. The system has also been used to facilitate evacuations in the face of hurricanes and other natural disasters. An option for maximizing traffic throughput on a highway is to reverse the flow of traffic on one side of a divider so that all lanes become outbound lanes. This procedure, known as contraflow lane reversal, has been employed several times for hurricane evacuations. After public outcry regarding the inefficiency of evacuating from southern Louisiana prior to Hurricane Georges' landfall in September 1998, government officials looked towards contraflow to improve evacuation times. In Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina, in 1999, lanes of I-16 and I-26 were used in a contraflow configuration in anticipation of Hurricane Floyd with mixed results. In 2004 contraflow was employed ahead of Hurricane Charley in the Tampa, Florida area and on the Gulf Coast before the landfall of Hurricane Ivan; however, evacuation times there were no better than previous evacuation operations. Engineers began to apply lessons learned from the analysis of prior contraflow operations, including limiting exits, removing troopers (to keep traffic flowing instead of having drivers stop for directions), and improving the dissemination of public information. As a result, the 2005 evacuation of New Orleans, Louisiana, prior to Hurricane Katrina ran much more smoothly. A widespread urban legend states that one out of every five miles of the Interstate Highway System must be built straight and flat so as to be usable by aircraft during times of war. Contrary to popular lore, Interstate Highways are not designed to serve as airstrips. This paper presents a literature survey on National Highway system.

The Korean government started to pay attention to the bicycle as a green transportation means to solve urban traffic problems caused by its automobile-centered road traffic policy and is establishing a plan for installing bike lanes in urban areas and more developed areas around national highway. However, there has been lack of analysis of the effects and feasibility of bikeway on national highway. In particular, demand forecast should be conducted to evaluate investment. In this regard, this study established a demand forecast methodology for bikeway on national road and applied it to the site. In this study, the previous studies were reviewed, and the conventional 4-step method applicable to forecasting of demand for bikeway in the areas around national road and sketch planning method that can help forecast new demand for bikeway were both adopted. The methodology reviewed in this study is expected to help establish final investment priority and plan according to economic analysis with cost estimation based on demand forecast and field survey

'Change, the law of nature, is the only constant of life' so none and nothing can remain aloof from it' such is with the policies of the nations of the world be they belong to foreign policies or economy policies or education policies. So far as the thing is concerned with the education policies of India whether it is Macaulay's 'Minute On Indian Education of 1835' or 'The first National Policy On Education of 1968' or 'The New Education Policy of 1986', or ' Program of Action (PoE) of 1992, under the National Policy on Education' or 'NCF (National Curriculum Framework) 2005,' all of them have often been objected on various grounds from time to time as being out of fashion and being unable to fulfill the need of time and place. This is why 'The Union Cabinet Of India' has recently replaced the previous NPE of 1986 with/by the NEP-2020 with a comprehensive framework from elementary education to higher education as well as vocational training in both rural and urban India. Although rural India is highlighted as the soul of India resides in the countries, urban India is not neglected yet. NEP-2020 has a broad outlook, visions-provisions, and missions for various people and various things. In this chapter, with these points, an attempt has been made to present what the special things are for the youths of the country; what the things are going to make them special, and how it is a new national highway for the youths of the country to run on and on.

Successfully implementing public–private partnerships (PPP) depend on the establishment of effective policy and institutional frameworks. While such factors play a significant role, practitioners often face obstacles posed by other less visible, and often indefinable, factors. The purpose of this article is to identify such X factors which had delayed the delivery of the National Highway Development Programmes in India, where well-defined policy and institutional frameworks are in place. This article finds that the entangled nature of inter-agency relationships and the resultant faulty selection of PPP policy options were the root causes of delay, which then invited a chain reaction that slowed down the entire process.
