This study examined the item difficulty levels of WAEC, NECO and NABTEB Mathematics Achievement Examinations and compared same to ascertain the order of difficulty levels of mathematics achievement tests being constructed by these three examination bodies in Nigeria.Three homogenous groups of 200 students each were randomly selected from the Government Technical Colleges and the Senior Secondary Schools that were randomly selected from Ondo, Ekiti and Osun States of the South West Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria. The instrument consisted of adopted WASSCE, NECO and NABTEB Mathematics Examinations. Four hypotheses were raised and tested at P=0.05 and the results showed that three was no significant difference in the item difficulty levels of WAEC, NECO and NABTEB mathematics achievement examinations. Hence, it was recommended that none of this examination should be seen as being lower in standard than the other and there should be no discrimination in the recognition of WAEC, NECO and NABTEB certificates. This study investigated the assessment of students' performance in Senior School Certificate (SSC) multiple-choice test in biology. The survey research design was employed for the study. Sample for the study consisted of 1450 Senior Secondary Three (SSIII) students drawn from 20 randomly selected secondary schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The instruments used for the study were 2008 SSC National Examination Council (NECO) multiplechoice Biology test paper. Findings from the study showed that significant different existed between students' performance in NECO SSCE multiple choice test in biology on the basis of senatorial districts(F = 55.556, P<0.05), school location (t = 6.89, P<0.05),; gender(t = 5.03, P<0.05), and school type (F = 75.126, P<0.05). Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that Government and other stakeholders in education should equip rural schools with facilities that are available in urban schools to improve students' performance in Biology in rural schools.

The study determined if the 1PL, 2PL, 3PL and 4PL item response theory models best fit the data from the 2016 NECO Mathematics objective tests. Ex-post facto design was adopted for the study. The population for the study comprised 1,022,474 candidates who enrolled and sat for June/July SSCE 2016 NECO Mathematics Examination. The sample comprised 276,338 candidates who sat for the examination in three purposively Geo political zones in Nigeria (i.e S/West, S/East and N/West). The research instruments used for the study were Optical Marks Record Sheets for the National Examination Council (NECO) June/July 2016 SSCE Mathematics objectives items. The responses of the testees were scored dichotomously. Data collected were analysed using 2loglikelihood chi-square. The results of the likelihood ratio test revealed that 2PL fitted the data better than 1PL was statistically significant (χ2 (59) = 820636.1, p 0.05); the 2PL model fitted the data better than the 1PL model; 3PL model fitted the data better than the 2PL model and The result showed that the 4PL model fitted the data better than the 3PL model and the Likelihood ratio test that 4PL model fitted the data better than 3PL model was statistically significant, (χ2 (60) = 216159.2, p 0.05). he synchrotron radiation total reflection X-ray fluorescence (SRTXRF) technique was used for the analysis of heavy metals in produced watersamples from oil field in Rio Grande do Norte, in order to determine potential sources of pollution. Since the inorganic components in producedwater generally resembling sea water, pre-concentration procedures have been applied to increase the concentration of the analyte of interest andto minimize the salt matrix effects. This technique allows us to determine the contents of V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Hg and Pb in 20 producedwater samples. The great majority of the sampling points presented low elemental concentration value. However, in some sample, the Fe, Ni, Cu,Zn and Hg concentration were higher than the established limits by the Brazilian legislation

The study examined the differential item functioning (DIF) of 2018 Basic Education Certificate examination (BECE) in Mathematics tests of National Examination Council (NECO) and BECE of Akwa Ibom State government in Nigeria. The invariance in the tests with regards to sex was considered using Item Response Theory (IRT) approach. The study area was Akwa Ibom state of Nigeria having a student population of 58,281 for the examination. The sample was made of up 3810 students drawn through a multi-stage sampling approach. The multidimensional IRT (MIRT) package implemented in R-programming language software was applied in analyzing the data. The findings reveal that BECE of NECO displayed 23(38.3%) DIF items while BECE of Akwa Ibom State had 37 (61.7%) DIF items in terms of sex. The findings also revealed that, in the two examinations, more items favoured the male candidates more than the female candidates in terms of performance. It was recommended that IRT model should be adopted by test developers to determine item parameters for selection of good items to ensure quality of items before administration. Test equating of students who write equivalent form examinations conducted by different examining bodies was also recommended for admission and placement of candidates to determine actual group differences in performance. The study posits that research on Differential Item Functioning is inconclusive, so should be encouraged.

OBJECTIVE. To synthesize the findings on correlates of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) in South American children. METHOD. A search was carried out from June 24 to October 27, 2020, in the LILACS, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus and Web of Science databases. To broaden the search, the references of identified review articles were examined, and a panel of experts was surveyed. Observational and interventional studies conducted with South-American children from zero to 5 years of age were included. RESULTS. Of 3 111 articles initially identified, 18 were eligible: 14 observational studies, 12 studies conducted in Brazil, and 17 studies investigating preschool children (3 to 5 years of age). In addition to Brazil, only Chile and Ecuador were represented. PA and SB were measured by accelerometers in seven studies; however, high variability was observed in the instruments and cut-off points used. Although children were classified as physically active in 12 studies, six studies showed that they spent considerable time in SB. Most studies assessed the individual (14 studies) and interpersonal (11 studies) domains, followed by the environmental (eight studies) and political (one study) domains. Interventions in the school context (four studies) increased PA levels and reduced the time spent in SB. However, the evidence from cross-sectional and interventional studies presented a high risk of bias. CONCLUSIONS. Given the knowledge gap identified in this review, studies with robust designs, covering additional South American countries are warranted, focusing on infants and children under 3 years of age and investigating correlates in the environmental and political domains.

This paper investigated the utilization of electronic instructional materials on secondary school three (SS3) biology students in Calabar, Education Zone Cross River State, Nigeria. The study adopted Expost facto-research design. A hypothesis was formulated to guide the study, and relevant literature reviewed in line with the purpose of the study. A sample of 490 students was used for the study. A checklist and achievement test were instruments used for data collection. Data generated were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that utilization of electronic instructional materials significantly influence students' academic achievement in biology. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that government should ensure effective distribution of electronic types of instructional materials to all public secondary schools presenting candidates for SSCE and NECO to enhance effectual teaching and learning of biology.Keywords: academic achievement, biology, electronic instructional materials, students
