WOS: 000286708700015 ; A new high-spin isomeric state (t(1/2) = 2.8 +/- 0.1 mu s) in Re-160 has been identified. This high-spin isomer is unique in that it only decays by gamma-decay and not by proton or alpha-particle emission as is the case in every other proton emitter between Z = 64 and 80. Shell model calculations indicate how the convergence of the h(9/2) and f(7/2) neutron levels in this region could open up a gamma-decay path from the high-spin isomer to the low-spin ground state of 160Re. providing a natural explanation for this anomalous absence of charged-particle emission. The consequences of these observations for future searches for proton emission from even more exotic nuclei and in-beam spectroscopic studies are considered. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. The production of Z bosons with one or two isolated high-energy photons is studied using pp collisions at root s = 8 TeV. The analyses use a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) collected by the ATLAS detector during the 2012 LHC data taking. The Z gamma and Z gamma gamma production cross sections are measured with leptonic (e(+) e(-), mu(+) mu(-), nu(nu) over bar) decays of the Z boson, in extended fiducial regions defined in terms of the lepton and photon acceptance. They are then compared to cross-section predictions from the Standard Model, where the sources of the photons are radiation off initial-state quarks and radiative Z-boson decay to charged leptons, and from fragmentation of final-state quarks and gluons into photons. The yields of events with photon transverse energy E-T > 250 GeV from l(+) l(-) gamma events and with E-T > 400 GeV from nu(nu) over bar gamma events are used to search for anomalous triple gauge-boson couplings ZZ gamma and Z gamma gamma. The yields of events with diphoton invariant mass m(gamma gamma) > 200 GeV from l(+) l(-) gamma gamma events and with m(gamma gamma) > 300 GeV from nu(nu) over bar gamma gamma events are used to search for anomalous quartic gauge-boson couplings ZZ gamma gamma and Z gamma gamma gamma. No deviations from Standard Model predictions are observed and limits are placed on parameters used to describe anomalous triple and quartic gauge-boson couplings. ; ATLAS Collaboration, for complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.93.112002 Funding: We thank CERN for the very successful operation of the LHC, as well as the support staff from our institutions without whom ATLAS could not be operated efficiently.
AbstractThis article deals with several problems that arise when the Theil coefficient of income inequality is computed in practice.Aggregation of income data into brackets leads to an underestimation of the true Theil inequality, which is defined as the value of the coefficient as computed from individual income data. The assumption that the individual incomes are distributed according to a linear density function within the income brackets is suggested as a method to estimate this aggregation error. Calculations show that this method approximates the true aggregation error reasonably well.Several methods are discussed concerning the treatment of negative incomes. In particular one can construct an income bracket that contains both negative and positive incomes and which in the summation formula is weighted with zero weight. Of all methods this procedure using the assumption of a linear density function within brackets, yields the highest value of the Theil coefficient and is thus preferred to the other alternatives.

The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at center-of-mass energies of 8 and 13TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 19.7 and 2.7 fb(-1), respectively. The Z bosons are reconstructed from opposite-sign electron or muon pairs. No statistically signi fi cant deviation from the standard model predictions has been found in the 200-2000 GeV mass range. Upper limits at 95% con fi dence level have been derived on the product of the scalar particle production cross section and the branching fraction of the Z decaying into electrons or muons, which range from 280 to 20 fb for resonance masses between 200 and 2000 GeV.

The data correspond to integrated luminosities of 166 mu b(-1) and 5.4 pb(-1) for PbPb and pp collisions, respectively. Differential production cross sections are reported as functions of gamma rapidity y up to 2.4, and transverse momentum PT up to 20 GeV/c. A strong centrality-dependent suppression is observed in PbPb relative to pp collisions, by factors of up to approximate to 2 and 8, for the gamma(1S) and gamma(2S) states, respectively. No significant dependence of this suppression is observed as a function of y or PT. The gamma(3S) state is not observed in PbPb collisions, which corresponds to a suppression for the centrality-integrated data by at least a factor of approximate to 7 at a 95% confidence level. The observed suppression is in agreement with theoretical scenarios modeling the sequential melting of quarkonium states in a quark gluon plasma. (C) 2017 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V.

Fiducial cross sections are reported based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.4 fb(-1) collected with the CMS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. Signal is identified through the W -> lv and Z -> ll decay modes, where l is a muon or an electron. The production of W gamma gamma and Z gamma gamma, measured with significances of 2.6 and 5.9 standard deviations, respectively, is consistent with standard model predictions. In addition, limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings in W gamma gamma production are determined in the context of a dimension-8 effective field theory.
