This is a review of Indonesia's industrial economy, taking into account the following aspects: an overview of the country's manufacturing sector, especially of its structure and development; the national plans and policy measures relevant to industrial development; a review of the more important governmental and other institutions involved in industrial development and a survey of the country's natural, human and financial resources, with a focus on the role of technical co-operation in industrial development. In order to determine the industrial priorities in Bangladesh in a general equilibrium framework, the author formulates a linear programming model. The model is then solved on the basis of alternative assumption of foreign aid, expected growth of agricultural sector, and the possibility of export expansion. It is found that the country's comparative advantage lies in agro-based industries like sugar, edible oil, tobacco, jute textiles etc. (DÜI-Sen)

Abstract
From the late 19th to the late 20th century, the cities and industries of the world became increasingly reliant on fireproof materials made from asbestos. In focusing on the town of Asbestos, Canada, this paper will show how this process of market boom and bust shaped a fierce local culture rooted in working and living on a rapidly changing environment. By analyzing the successive expansions of the giant mine located in the centre of Asbestos, this paper will highlight how unique understandings of self and place develop in mining communities and form a complex culture rooted in a constantly changing environment.

The regulation of the restructuring employment processes that occurs in the course of the development of the economy and the evolution of its structure should be based on the selection of sectoral priorities and be accompanied by an assessment of this process in terms of its compliance with the needs of the development of progressive types of economic activity. In this regard, the problem of elaborating methodological approaches that ensure the orderliness and controllability of the process of restructuring employment, including objectifying the choice of progressive industries and assessing the quality of shifts in the sectoral structure of employment, is highly relevant. The article substantiates approaches to identifying sectoral priorities for restructuring employment based on the criteria of economic efficiency and involvement in the implementation of government programs and also proposes a sequential process for evaluating the quality of shifts in employment based on their compliance with the selected sectoral priorities. Within the framework of the proposed approaches, using the example of the labor market in Kazakhstan, the results obtained are presented, such as a sequence of analytical actions to determine the range of priority sectors, a matrix for identifying sectoral priorities for employment, a scheme for implementing a methodological approach to assessing the quality of shifts in the sectoral structure of employment. On the basis of the proposed approaches, an assessment of the quality of shifts in the sectoral structure of employment in Kazakhstan was carried out and conclusions were drawn about the insufficient correspondence of these shifts to the priorities of the country's economic development.

The analysis of the fourth industrial revolution outlines the structural changes arising in industries, as described by firm managers, scientists and consultants, as well as the literature on the fourth industrial revolution. It raises the need for new industrial policies, which are discussed in this paper. Structural changes arising in specific industries might have effects on other industries (due to complementarities) and on the whole economic system. Industrial policy must therefore be based on an analysis of productive processes, but also on analyses of the interactions between different productive processes. Favoring structural changes in one sector may have positive or negative impacts on other sectors; it may also impact upon the labour market, changing the skill required in the labour force, as well as wages. We argue that industrial policies are particularly needed when the economy experiences deep transformations, such as industrial revolutions. The advent of digital globalization is primarily driven by the technological progress induced by the fourth industrial revolution, but we believe that industrial revolutions are the result of complex transformations of the economy, the society and culture. We define industrial policy in a broad manner, as a set of actions aimed to favor structural changes in industries and orientating industrial development in specific directions. Such actions regard innovation, trade, intellectual property rights and antitrust; they also regard labour, because firms cannot upgrade or be created if they do not find the human capital they need for their operations. Looking at providing appropriate human capital means considering social policies, labour contracts and measures to favor the participation in the labour force. It also means considering education and training, because they determine the types of skills people will be able to develop.

This article examines industrial policy in Azerbaijan and its link with the broader development agenda with respect to its periodization, priorities, and instruments. The article finds that despite the government's attempts to diversify the economy and exports by promoting non-oil industries, the imbalance between the mining and manufacturing industries remains a challenging issue. Additionally, the high level of oil-gas dependence negatively affects the quality of policy formulation and implementation in industry.
