Freedom of Press and its Implications
Press and media are the vital way to express and speak the views and opinions in free manner in the democratic country. Indian constitution has given the freedom of speech to the citizens of India under Article 19 1 a It is settled law that the right to freedom of speech and expression includes liberty of the press. The press is supposed to guard public interest by bringing in front the misdeeds, failings and lapses of the govt. and other bodies exercising governing power. Press is the fourth valuable pillor of the democracy. In India press can act as bridge between the govt and the people. On the Freedom of Press in the USSR
The editorial office of the Ukrainian Information Space has decided to publish the full article of the journalist of the UPA O. Hornovyi «On the freedom of press in the USSR» for the first time in Ukraine. The author of the article is a member of the main unit of propaganda during the OUN. He died in 1950 at the age of 29 in a battle with the KGB department near one of the shelters in Lviv region. This unique, virtually unknown to researchers and quite consistent with the current Ukrainian realities, text has a dramatic fate. It was published in 1946 on the front pages of the Ukrainian Main Liberation Council (UMLC) magazine «Independence». It was the only number, and it has not survived to this day. The text of the article was distributed in self-publishing on the territory of the Soviet Ukraine. In 1949 it was published a separate brochure in one of the underground UIA printing houses with the initial data «Kyiv-Lviv». The only surviving copy of this brochure in the scanned form was published on the website of the Electronic Archive of the Ukrainian Liberation Movement. However, the original of the brochure itself is rather damaged: it lacks several pages, and individual pages lack whole sections of text. Later, the article was reprinted in one of the issues of the so-called miniature brochures from the massif of subversive anti-Soviet literature, which was published on behalf of the UMLC Foreign Office in London and was illegally transported to the territory of Soviet Ukraine. A copy of this booklet was discovered by Professor Mykola Tymoshyk in the archives of the Ukrainian Publishing Union in London during a recent research internship in the United Kingdom. This document is the subject of editorial preparation for this publication. It analyzes the Soviet press in the context of the notion of press freedom in a democratic and totalitarian society. By giving a number of examples from the central and local Soviet press, the author identifies three features of Soviet journalism: a) the press in the USSR belongs ...

FREEDOM OF PRESS AND JUDICIARY CENSORSHIP IN BRAZIL
This paper intends to provide an overview on freedom of press under the 1988 Brazilian constitution. Despite living the longest democratic term of Brazilian history – twenty seven years so far, the constitutional and democratic project are under a clear and present threat, this time coming from an unsuspicious player in the democratic game: the judiciary branch of the state. The 2009 Estado de São Paulo case reflects how such threat has been identified by some justices belonging to the Brazilian supreme court – the S.T.F. - committed with a democratic and constitutional culture. The threat is scattered all over the land, coming from individual members and sometimes from several states´ appeal courts of both state or federal degrees. Either we enjoy plainfully the fundamental rights or we do not live in an actual democracy, in the western liberal and bourgeois concept of it. Becoming aware of it, rising up legal resistance against such threat and spreading the news for the whole citizenship is a necessary step to consolidate democracy in Brazil and to push away authoritarian political regimes.

Freedom of Press and Good Governance: an Indo-US Comparison
Freedom of expression has always been emphasised as an essential basis for the democratic functioning of a society. The right to know, receive and impart information has been recognized within the right to freedom of speech and expression. A citizen has a right to know about the activities of the instrumentalities, the departments and the agencies of the State. Press plays a crucial role in dissemination of information. A free and vigilant Press is vital to restrain corruption and injustice by generat ing political discourse. Freedom of Press inevitably helps drive scientific progress which in turn propels innovation and economic prosperity. Although the expression "Freedom of Press" has not been used in Article 19 but it is implicit in the right of freedom of speech and expression. It is the heart of social and political intercourse. Through this paper the authors try to emphasise the role of media on the basis of Aristotle's 'theory of Politics'. Further, want to consider the US position where there is an absolute Freedom of Press which has fostered innovation and also comment upon the various tests laid down by the Supreme Court of US to put reasonable restrictions upon such freedom.
