This book describes the methods used to forecast the demands at inventory holding locations. The methods are proven, practical and doable for most applications, and pertain to demand patterns that are horizontal, trending, seasonal, promotion and multi-sku. The forecasting methods include regression, moving averages, discounting, smoothing, two-stage forecasts, dampening forecasts, advance demand forecasts, initial forecasts, all time forecasts, top-down, bottom-up, raw and integer forecasts, Also described are demand history, demand profile, forecast error, coefficient of variation, forecast sensitivity and filtering outliers. The book shows how the forecasts with the standard normal, partial normal and truncated normal distributions are used to generate the safety stock for the availability and the percent fill customer service methods. The material presents topics that people want and should know in the work place. The presentation is easy to read for students and practitioners; there is little need to delve into difficult mathematical relationships, and numerical examples are presented throughout to guide the reader on applications. ÖZETENVANTER KONTROLÜ İÇİN TALEP TAHMİNİ VE BİR UYGULAMAStok maliyetleri işletme harcamalarının önemli bir bölümünü oluşturur. Stok maliyetlerindeki düşüş sayesinde elde edilecek kazançlar diğer varlıkların satın alınmasında veya borçların ödenmesinde kullanılabilir. Bu tezin amacı Teknotel Ltd. Sti.'nin envanter maliyetlerini azaltmak ve firma politikaları sonucu belirlenen sipariş karşılama oranı hedefine ulaşmaktır. Üretim Planlama ve Envanter Kontrolü'nde daha etkin karar verebilmek için, gelecek zamanlarda oluşacak talepler tahmin edilecektir.İlk olarak uygun tahmin yöntemleri kullanılarak talepler tahmin edilmiştir. Bunun için MINITAB yazılım programı kullanılmıştır.Daha sonra talep tahminini envanter kontrolüyle birleştirecek bir yaklaşım, şirketin gerçek verileri ile örneklenmiştir. Bu duruma en uygun envanter kontrol yöntemi olarak, stok tükenmesine veya sipariş ertelenmesine izin veren deterministik ekonomik sipariş miktarı modeli seçilmiştir. Asıl amaç, Takograf isimli ürünün bazı parçalarının güvenlik stok düzeylerini, envanter maliyetlerini, optimum sipariş miktarlarını ve çevrim zamanlarını belirlemektir. The funds freed by a reduction in inventories can be used to acquire other types of assets or to reduce liabilities. Thus, the aim of this thesis is to reduce inventory costs of the company Teknotel Ltd. Sti. and to attain customer service level specified by the company policies. The demands in future periods should be predicted for effective decision making in production planning and inventory management.Firstly, the demands are forecasted using appropriate forecasting methods and MINITAB software program is used for this purpose.Then an approach is illustrated on real data of the company to integrate demand forecasting with inventory control. The inventory model that suits best to such a situation is chosen Economic Order Quantity with Stockouts or Backorders Allowed, which is a deterministic inventory control model. The main purpose is to define the inventory cost and safety stock levels, optimum lot size and cycle time of some parts of the product named Takograf. This is done using the add-ins in MS Excel. The new system is presented with its expected total cost values and the results of designed system is compared with the previous system by taking into the consideration of the total inventory cost in both systems.Details of these studies are presented in relevant sections of this thesis. 06,2005Burcu ALİLTER

The literature on the close to just‐in‐time (JIT) problems of
conditions already exists. However, most of it is descriptive and does
not quantify cost savings derivable as one moves from the Economic Order
Quantity (EOQ) scenario to one that is governed or nearly governed by
zero inventory philosophy. This article seeks to establish cost bounds
on inventory held under close to JIT conditions for the single item
inventory.

Il testo è disponibile sul sito dell'editore www.wkap.nl ; The increasing awareness and concern of people, researchers and decision makers for the maintenance and enhancement of goods and services provided by forest ecosystems significantly widened the scope of information needs for sustainable forest management on the task-specific, integrative and strategic level. Forest resource assessments have to provide reliable, harmonized, politically relevant, cost-efficient and intuitively visible information on the multiple functions of forests in the form of statistics, georeferenced data and thematic cartography. In this perspective, the need of reviewing and discussing improvements of forest inventory and monitoring approaches is acknowledged to cope with assessment and analysis tools required for the full understanding of forest ecosystems, from local to global scales. Only a limited amount of information can be provided by adding a set of new attributes to the list of attributes commonly used in assessing the productive function of forests and utilizing traditional survey designs. The diversity of information needs that have to be satisfied by current forest resource assessments require the adoption of new survey approaches and the extension of assessment frames from forests to landscapes. This is deemed distinctively true for the issues related to sustainable forest management and biodiversity monitoring. Within this framework, the major purpose of this volume of Kluwer`s "Forestry Science Series" is to give readers hands-on experiences about inventory and monitoring problems and potential by reviewing a selection of approaches, methods and tools for multi-resource forest surveys, with special reference to remote sensing, statistical sampling and spatial analyses. The book is intended for researchers and practitioners in the field of forest and environmental planning, environmental monitoring and environmental policies.

Evolving production technologies are altering the cost structures
on which many supporting inventory ordering systems are based; for
example, fixed costs compared with variable costs are increasing
significantly. Unfortunately, many inventory ordering formulations
consider only the variable portions of inventory ordering costs and
inventory holding costs. To address this deficiency, departs from
traditional categorizations and offers an inventory classification
schema based on the functional roles served by the inventory items.
Functional roles of inventory include transition, buffer, investment,
maintenance, supplies and dead stock. Extending the schema, assesses the
implications each functional role has for inventory cost containment,
emphasizing the impact of evolving production technologies on inventory
ordering policies and their relevance to functional roles.

The literature of traditional inventory analysis contains primarily cost minimisation models. These models avoid the interface of marketing and finance with logistics through constraints and a combined logistics/marketing/finance objective of maximising firm's profit. Under certain conditions, the cost minimisation models will give the same results as the profit maximising results; however, if such conditions do not hold, the cost minimisation models may give results which are different from the profit maximising results. Such is the case when sales lot size for batch sales) decisions are analysed within a cost minimising framework. A proper framework based on discounted cash flow analysis as prescribed by finance theory is developed in this article. A numerical illustration is also presented.
