Environmental protection is considered an important element in most religions. The article is devoted to the philosophical understanding of the problem of the influence of religion on the environment, human behavior and attitude to nature. Religion has always touched upon the problem of the relationship between man and the world around him. In the existing religious traditions, various ideals of the relationship between man and nature have been formed. As a result, the ideological functions of religion acquire special significance. In our time, religions can be a spiritual source for the development and formation of environmental ethics and natural aesthetics. Religious ethics awakens in people a consciousness that is different from material and technological thinking. Religion helps people understand that their control over the living and inanimate world is unlimited and that cruelty towards nature will turn to them. Religion teaches people that the purpose of life is not to maximize consumption. While technology gives man the physical strength to create or destroy the world, religion teaches virtue. Directly or indirectly, religion can be a powerful source of environmental protection. Therefore, we need to use the power of the influence of religion to protect nature. The nature of the influence of religion on the current state and development of society largely depends on the relationship between people of different faiths. The religious consciousness of people developed in the direction of knowledge of the world and its laws, methods of practical use. Some religious ideologies deify human nature and reflect people's responses to their environment. Religion, as a form of social consciousness, has always, in one way or another, taken care of man's relationship with the natural world, traditionally expressed a certain moral and ethical concern for the environment and determined the moral obligations of man in relation to the environment.

According to the Criminal Law, the protection of the natural human environment implies specific incriminations, i.e., environmental crimes that are punishable to preserve and create a healthy environment for the human species in line with the economic and technical development. Environmental problems created by society's progress (civilization) have political, economic, scientific, and legal, i.e., international legal dimensions. Today, a common topic is an ecological crisis caused by pollution and contamination of Earth, i.e., the disturbance of the balance and rhythm of the biosphere. Using the natural resources of our planet in a way that destroys it and prevents its regeneration requires special Criminal Law sanctions that will protect the natural environment and preclude our planet from becoming unsuitable for life. Therefore, we can increasingly use the term ecocide, i.e., utilizing natural resources without considering the necessity of developing a strategy for the use, harmonization, and preservation of a healthy human environment. This is a dualistic approach that links the protection of nature as an independent asset to protect the human quality of life as an individual and social issue. The paper will analyze the effectiveness of environmental protection from the Criminal Law aspect and point out the need for a more significant application of Administrative Law measures, especially the preventative ones, as a more effective tool for environmental protection.

In this research, we analyzed the link between economic growth and environmental protection for countries like: Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary. For the economic growth we used gross domestic products (GDP) as a proxy and for the environmental protection we decided to use general government expenditure by function such as: environmental protection, waste management, pollution abatement, protection of biodiversity and landscape and R&D environmental protection. Due to the restrictions in finding the data, we decided that the period under investigation would be 1995-2017. The empirical results confirmed the presence of a positive link between GDP and expenditures for all the countries analyzed, a fact confirmed by the other existing studies. After applying the Granger causality test, only in the case of Hungary was identified a unidirectional causality from GDP to R&D environmental protection.
