6 pags., 5 figs., 1 tab. ; We report on experimental total electron scattering cross-section (TCS) from pyridine (CHN) for incident electron energies between 10 and 1000 eV, with experimental uncertainties within 5–10%, as measured with a double electrostatic analyser apparatus. The experimental results are compared with our theoretical calculations performed within the independent atom model complemented with a screening corrected additivity rule (IAM-SCAR) procedure which has been updated by including interference effects. A good level of agreement is found between both data sources within the experimental uncertainties. 20 pags., 7 figs., 6 tabs. ; We report, over an extended energy range, recommended angle-integrated cross sections for elastic scattering, discrete inelastic scattering processes, and the total ionization cross section for electron scattering from atomic indium. In addition, from those angle-integrated cross sections, a grand total cross section is subsequently derived. To construct those recommended cross-section databases, results from original B-spline R-matrix, relativistic convergent close-coupling, and relativistic optical-potential computations are also presented here. Electron transport coefficients are subsequently calculated, using our recommended database, for reduced electric fields ranging from 0.01 Td to 10 000 Td using a multiterm solution of Boltzmann's equation. We report theoretical integral and differential cross sections for electron scattering from hydrogen cyanide derived from two ab initio scattering potential methods. For low energies (0.1-100 eV), we have used the symmetry adapted-single centre expansion method using a multichannel scattering formulation of the problem. For intermediate and high energies (10-10 000 eV), we have applied an optical potential method based on a screening corrected independent atom representation. Since HCN is a strong polar molecule, further dipole-induced excitations have been calculated in the framework of the first Born approximation and employing a transformation to a space-fixed reference frame of the calculated K-matrix elements. 11 pags., 6 figs., 2 tabs. -- This article belongs to the Special Issue Electron and Photon Interactions with Bio(Related) Molecules ; Experimental results for the electron impact ionization of benzene, providing double (DDCS) and triple differential cross sections (TDCS) at the incident energy of 90 eV, measured with a multi-particle momentum spectrometer, are reported in this paper. The most intense ionization channel is assigned to the parent ion (C6H6 + ) formation. The DDCS values are presented for three different transferred energies, namely 30, 40 and 50 eV. The present TDCS are given for two fixed values of the ejected electron energy (E2 ), at 5 and 10 eV, and an electron scattering angle (θ1 ) of 10◦ . Different features related to the molecular orbitals of benzene from where the electron is extracted are observed. Theoretical differential and integral elastic, as well as integral inelastic, cross sections have been calculated by means of a screening-corrected form of the independent-atom representation (IAM-SCAR) from 10 to 1000 eV incident electron energies. The present experimental and theoretical total cross sections show a good level of agreement, to within 10%, in the overlapping energy range. 8 pags., 5 figs., 2 tabs. ; We present experimental total cross sections for electron scattering from furfural in the energy range from 10 to 1000 eV, as measured using a double electrostatic analyzer gas cell electron transmission experiment. These results are compared to theoretical data for furfural, as well as to experimental and theoretical values for the structurally similar molecules furan and tetrahydrofuran. The measured total cross section is in agreement with the theoretical results obtained by means of the independent-atom model with screening corrected additivity rule including interference method. In the region of higher electron energies, from 500 eV to 10 keV, the total electron scattering cross section is also estimated using a semi-empirical model based on the number of electrons and dipole polarizabilities of the molecular targets. 8 págs.; 2 figs.; 2 tabs. ; We report absolute experimental integral cross sections (ICSs) for electron impact excitation of bands of electronic-states in furfural, for incident electron energies in the range 20-250 eV. Wherever possible, those results are compared to corresponding excitation cross sections in the structurally similar species furan, as previously reported by da Costa et al. [Phys. Rev. A 85, 062706 (2012)] and Regeta and Allan [Phys. Rev. A 91, 012707 (2015)]. Generally, very good agreement is found. In addition, ICSs calculated with our independent atom model (IAM) with screening corrected additivity rule (SCAR) formalism, extended to account for interference (I) terms that arise due to the multi-centre nature of the scattering problem, are also reported. The sum of those ICSs gives the IAM-SCAR+I total cross section for electron-furfural scattering. Where possible, those calculated IAM-SCAR+I ICS results are compared against corresponding results from the present measurements with an acceptable level of accord being obtained. Similarly, but only for the band I and band II excited electronic states, we also present results from our Schwinger multichannel method with pseudopotentials calculations. Those results are found to be in good qualitative accord with the present experimental ICSs. This article reports a comprehensive theoretical study of electron scattering from vinyl ether and its isomers. The electron–molecule quantum collision problem is solved through a complex optical potential approach. From the solution of the Schrödinger equation corresponding to this scattering problem, various cross sections were obtained for energies from ionization threshold of target to 5 keV. To deal with the non-spherical and complex structure, a multi-center group additivity approach is used. Furthermore, geometrical screening correction is applied to compensate for the overestimation of results due to electron charge density overlap. We found an interesting correlation between maximum ionization cross section with polarizability and ionization energy of the target molecule. The fitting of the total cross section as a function of the incident electron energy is reported in this article. The correlation between the effective diameter of the target and the projectile wavelength at maximum ionization energy is also reported for vinyl ether and its isomers. The data presented here will be useful to biomedical field, mass spectrometry, and chemical database for military range applications. The cross sections are also important to model Mars's atmosphere due to their presence in its atmosphere. The gas-kinetic radius and the van der Waals coefficients are estimated from the electron-impact total scattering cross sections. In addition, the current study predicts the presence of isomeric effects in the cross section.

8 pags., 3 figs., 4 tabs. ; We report absolute experimental integral cross sections (ICSs) for the electron impact excitation of 6 bands (Bands 0-V) of unresolved electronic-states in para-benzoquinone, for incident electron energies between 20 and 40 eV. Absolute vibrational-excitation ICSs, for 3 composite vibrational bands (Bands I-III), are also reported in that same energy range. In addition, ICSs calculated within our independent atom model (IAM) with screening corrected additivity rule (SCAR) formalism, extended to account for interference (I) terms that arise due to the multi-centre nature of the scattering problem, are also reported. The sum of those ICSs gives the IAM-SCAR+I total cross section (TCS) for electron-para-benzoquinone scattering. Where possible, those calculated IAM-SCAR+I ICSs are compared against corresponding results from the present measurements with an acceptable level of accord being obtained. Similarly, we also present results from our Schwinger multichannel method with pseudopotential (SMCPP) calculations. Here elastic ICSs and ICSs corresponding to the Bands 0-III of unresolved electronic-states are presented, with agreement between the SMCPP electronic-state ICSs and those from our measurements being in good qualitative accord. The energy range of our SMCPP computations is 16-50 eV. Using the binary-encounter-Bethe (BEB) approach, total ionization cross sections for this collision system were computed. Those total ionization cross sections were then added to our SMCPP ICS results, to derive SMCPP/BEB TCSs that are typically in very good accord with those from our IAM-SCAR+I approach. ; This study was partially supported by the Australian Research Council (ARC) through Grant No. DP160120787. The elastic scattering of He6 on Sn120 has been measured at four energies above the Coulomb barrier using the He6 beam produced at the RIBRAS (Radioactive Ion Beams in Brasil) facility. The elastic angular distributions have been analyzed with the optical model and three- and four-body continuum-discretized coupled-channels calculations.
