Automated Essay Scoring has gained a wider applicability and usage with the integration of advanced Natural Language Processing techniques which enabled in-depth analyses of discourse in order capture the specificities of written texts. In this paper, we introduce a novel Automatic Essay Scoring method for Dutch language, built within the Readerbench framework, which encompasses a wide range of textual complexity indices, as well as an automated segmentation approach. Our method was evaluated on a corpus of 173 technical reports automatically split into sections and subsections, thus forming a hierarchical structure on which textual complexity indices were subsequently applied. The stepwise regression model explained 30.5% of the variance in students' scores, while a Discriminant Function Analysis predicted with substantial accuracy (75.1%) whether they are high or low performance students. ; This study is part of the RAGE project. Analysis of political communication is an important aspect of political research. Thematic content analysis has yielded considerable success both with manual and automatic coding, but Semantic Network Analysis has proven more difficult, both for humans and for the computer. This article presents a system for an automated Semantic Network Analysis of Dutch texts. The system automatically extracts relations between political actors based on the output of syntactic analysis of Dutch newspaper articles. Specifically, the system uses pattern matching to find source constructions and determine the semantic agent and patient of relations, and name matching and anaphora resolution to identify political actors. The performance of the system is judged by comparing the extracted relations to manual codings of the same material. Results on the level of measurement indicate acceptable performance. We also estimate performance at the levels of analysis by using a case study of media authority, resulting in good correlations between the theoretical variables derived from the automatic and manual analysis. Finally, we test a number of substantive hypotheses with regression models using the automatic and manual output, resulting in highly similar models in each case. This suggests that our method has sufficient performance to be used to answer relevant political questions in a valid way.

The complexity of models for the simulation of physical systems is steadily increasing. This makes the effective validation of models for different design aspects crucial. One of the many important aspects is the structural correctness and the behavior due to design parameters which are of particular concern for the modeling of wind turbines. This article presents a design and implementation of a role-based validation framework. The framework allows for the creation of validation rules for different design aspects. This is done by role models that are used to define restrictions for an aspect by roles and rules. Multiple role models can be combined to cover all design features during model development. Restrictions on how models can interact with each other can be defined, which broadens language-specific restriction capabilities. The resulting rules can then be tested on arbitrary models based on the Eclipse Modeling Framework, for which mapping between elements of the role model and elements of the validated modeling language must be provided. In the domain of wind turbines, this approach is evaluated by application to two kinds of modeling languages (Modelica and UML2). In the contemporary consumer-oriented world, where desire often outweighs rationality, there is a growing significance attributed to specific-historical decision-making models, among which the Dutch navigational model stands out. The article explores the primary dimensions of importance and universality inherent in decision-making mechanisms within human life. Specifically, it examines the case of the historical-cultural, semantic, and environmental legacy of the East and West India Company in Amsterdam through the application of visual sociology techniques related to the environment and decision-making culture in the field stage. The examination of culture and the decision-making process, particularly within historical expansion processes as a scaling of outcomes, is intertwined with crucial dimensions of decision-making. These include aspects related to activity, volition, personal-status (social-power) attributions, and the consequential significance of decisions as agents shaping fate in history. Political-strategic decisions made collectively at the highest echelons were harmonized through a unified command structure with hierarchical elements, adherence to the ship's charter, the rationality inherent in navigational logic, and a system celebrating the success of the ship's crew upon the venture's completion. The core of the navigational decision system revolved around key inquiries that mirrored crucial stages of decision-making: Where am I (reconnaissance)? Where do I want to go (goal setting)? Which direction to go (orienteering)? How do I get there (tactics and ship navigation)? Multimedia thinking, characterized by visual clarity and the openness associated with terrestrial geography, necessitated the integration of virtual marine geography. This marine geography not only reflected concealed but quantifiable underwater factors but also aligned with the invisible environment, reconstructed on maps. Additionally, it harmonized with subjective-architectural construction cartography, collectively fostering flexibility in decision-making.

Issues such as collecting, handling and using the asset data produced during its lifecycle in a lean and efficient manner are on top of today's research. Customer satisfaction, compliance with environmental friendly legislation, product quality, high performance and reliability are only a few of the benefits improved maintenance methods and tools may provide to enterprises. In this work we combine the benefits of two previous developed models and we develop a model for Semantic Maintenance. The first model we are based on is the PROMISE semantic object model which was made for supporting Closed-Loop Product Lifecycle Management. The second model is the semantic model of e-maintenance developed in PROTEUS project. The new model described in this paper is named "SMAC-Model". Its aim is to provide advanced maintenance services as well as feedback for the Beginning of Life and input for End of Life. The model is generic and may be used in various Asset Lifecycle Management cases. It is developed to facilitate complex physical assets and to work in industrial environment.
